Shantel debated for a second, then opened the door wider. "By all means," she sighed and stepped aside.
Her mother moved gracefully inside, her heels clicking softly against the marble floor.
Her lips curled up in utter dissatisfaction as she surveyed the apartment with mild interest then made her way to the plush couch, gracefully lowering herself onto it as if she rather be somewhere else.
"I believe you don't expect me to offer you anything by this time of the night, Mother?" Shantel stated than asked as she secured the locks on the door.
Jessica didn't respond as she was busy assessing—by standard— the drab apartment. Then her scrutinizing gaze shifted to her daughter, swept over her, taking in the silk robe, the faint scent of ginger tea in the air, and the undeniable feeling that she wasn't welcome.
Finally, she spoke. "I came because I have noticed something… interesting."
Shantel raised a brow. "Really? Please, do share."
