The look on the artist's face told Chief Hanks that it was another disappointing dead end. He had let detective Kelly go check on the most recent crime scene so he could stay behind and see exactly what was happening here. He wanted to supervise the whole thing and make certain they had the sketch of the man. Hence, he had asked that they move to the interrogation while he stood outside observing.
All along, he has been trying his best not to get angry at the man's description. Even the police chief could not help but make a little picture in his head of Naruto emerging from flames. It was how he pictured that description but he was hoping that the sketch artist would have been able to put one or two together and give them the look of this supposed 'devil' killer.
