Shiphier drummed her painted nails on the stem of her wine glass, gaze fixed on the dance floor where Kai and Noah were standing. She had played it perfectly—just so much subtlety, just so much deception. The smile Kai had given her, the lean just a little too close, had been enough for Noah to step back. To doubt.
But a distinct voice pierced her mind before she could enjoy her little triumph.
"Damn, you don't know when to quit, do you?"
Shiphier just covered up her annoyance as she turned to Pong, propped against the bar, arms folded with a self-satisfied little grin.
"Excuse me?" she said, leaning her head to one side, pretending to be innocent.
Pong chuckled, taking a sip from her drink before putting it down with a clinking sound. "You're so going after Noah, aren't you? Tried to do something smooth and make him jealous, huh?" She tsked, shaking her head. "You need a new playbook. The one you're using is old news."
