The power of the returning light is tremendous.
Ren Zhong successfully opened his eyes, staring wide, carefully observing the five shadows that had just arrived.
In the twilight glow, two women and three men, five people in total, were curiously gathered around.
The woman who had spoken earlier was not tall, had a petite and delicate figure, a quite cute baby face, short hair that reached her ears, wearing tight black leather clothes and pants, with a long black gun strapped across her back, and a large-caliber revolver holstered on each side of her waist.
The woman beside her was somewhat taller, about one meter seventy, with a curvaceous figure, long hair tied into a ponytail at the back of her head, having delicate features but a cold expression, wearing a light blue work uniform, with a backpack on her back, and a short knife the length of her forearm hanging from her belt at her waist.
Among the three men, one was burly, with broad shoulders and a thick waist, his entire body wrapped in a tactile, fully covering armor, revealing only a face with thick eyebrows and wide eyes beneath the lifted helmet visor.
Another man was of medium height, with a pointed face and narrow eyes, wearing a blue baseball cap, dressed in an electrician's outfit with a pocket-laden leather vest over it, and six bulging pockets on his pants, with a briefcase slung at his waist.
There was also a man with an unremarkable appearance and an average height, wearing a sleeveless vest. His hands were different from ordinary people's, with arms hanging down almost reaching his knees, covered with pitch-black scales, his large palms having only four fingers, three in the front and one in the back, with crab-like shells on the backs of the fingers, and long, sharp, metallic lustered nails.
These are not human hands at all!
When Ren Zhong saw this man, his heart was shaken, but he forced himself to remain calm on the surface, even trying to greet the other.
But he failed.
Opening his eyes was already his limit.
He could only take the opportunity to blink enthusiastically when the woman with the baby face looked over, indicating that there was still a living person here.
But the other party seemed to not notice at all.
"This Crystal Winged Dragonfly just died not long ago, and the Crystal Chip is still useful." The baby-faced woman raised her right hand, glancing at the wrist watch on it, "Hanyu, hurry up and preserve the Crystal Chip. There are twenty-five minutes until dark. The hover car can go no faster than three hundred kilometers per hour, and we have to slightly detour to avoid the Second Level Ruined Beast, so twenty-two minutes is the utmost limit for travel. We must return to Starfire Town before dark, and we have to leave in no more than three minutes."
The tall woman in the work uniform nodded slightly, shook off her backpack, laid it flat on the ground, unzipped it, took out a pair of gloves that emitted a bluish glow from inside, put them on, and then walked to the dragonfly called Crystal Winged Dragonfly.
She slowly extended her hands, with her palms aimed at the deformed head of the Crystal Winged Dragonfly. Ten thin beams of orange-red light shot from her fingertips, landing on the dragonfly's head.
The beams flickered and danced at times.
The dragonfly's eyeball and the keratin layer covering its head began to peel away like an eggshell.
The tall woman's expression was focused.
It was clear she was doing a delicate task.
"Captain Zheng Tian, this person seems about to die. Should we save him?"
On the other side, the long-armed man finally deigned to lower his head to look at Ren Zhong and said so.
Ren Zhong's heart immediately jumped to his throat.
Good! The main part is coming!
The baby-face folded her hands behind her back and leisurely took a few steps forward, squatting down in front of Ren Zhong.
Taking the chance, Ren Zhong immediately gazed fondly into her eyes.
Those eyes seemed to speak.
His eyes were calling out, save me! Save me quickly!
He had died too many times and was truly fed up with it.
He was desperate to live for once.
While looking into the other's eyes, Ren Zhong couldn't help but recall a phrase he once read in a classic text.
An ancient sage surnamed Lu once said: If a pair of strangers of the opposite sex can look into each other's eyes for more than five seconds upon first meeting, there is love.
However, not even reaching five seconds, only 1.3 seconds later, the gaze of the baby-faced Zheng Tian began to lower, scanning Ren Zhong up and down, eyebrows slightly furrowed, "Strange, the wounds on this guy are not severe, yet he emits a feeling of despair."
The armored brawny man heard this and thumped over, speaking in a muffled voice, "He has no equipment, nor does he emit any energy level reaction; he's at the bottom among ordinary people. It's already impressive he managed to nearly take down a mature First Level Ruined Beast. It's a pity if he just dies like this."
Ren Zhong silently gave this man a thumbs up internally, well said!
Zheng Tian, "Yeah, that's quite rare. Interesting."
"But he has no wrist watch. Taking him along, if we encounter a Hunter, he'd be a burden. Besides, the quota for wastelanders in the town is already full. Even if we bring him back, after a few months he'd still die. I think there's no need to save him, just let him die."
Just as hope flickered in Ren Zhong's heart, the sharp-faced, narrow-eyed man in the baseball cap unintentionally dealt Ren Zhong a fatal blow.
It chilled him.
Ren Zhong: Damn! I curse your ancestors to the eighth generation!
The tall woman took only two and a half minutes to extract a fingernail-sized object from the head of the Crystal Winged Dragonfly, resembling a 21st-century semiconductor silicon chip.
She carefully placed the Crystal Chip in a small box divided into more than a dozen compartments, then called out, "Let's go."
After which, even though Ren Zhong continuously looked at everyone with pleading eyes, these people still elegantly waved their sleeves and left without a trace of hesitation, not even bothering to meet his eyes, as if the one lying there waiting to die was not a person, but a stray mongrel.
...
The night was cool as water, the long night stretched on.
Ren Zhong lay alone in the depths of the ravine.
The stone slab beside him had been lifted, and the body of the Crystal Winged Dragonfly had been taken away.
Ren Zhong's body grew colder, his consciousness became increasingly heavy, his eyelids opening and closing unconsciously.
He was about to die.
He was unwilling.
He couldn't believe he had actually been so easily sentenced to death.
This was completely against his values.
Seeing an old woman fall on the road, with no one around watching, even if you don't dare to help her up, at least you should call the police, right?
Just walking away without caring, what's that about?
Are you still human?
Or has this world already moved away from the nation's system, and human hearts have changed?
Ren Zhong, who had just arrived and had his first contact with the civilized society on this alien planet, was left out again.
He had been given a vivid lesson.
He was done for.
...
"Your name is Zheng Tian, right? Hello, it's nice to meet you."
Ren Zhong, full of immortal aura and exuding an air of a lofty hermit, sat steadily on a rock, with a confident and meaningful smile on his face, speaking to the five people who were looking at him with puzzled eyes.
Underneath the slab where he was sitting, the Crystal Winged Dragonfly was already dead.
This time, he had perfected every detail of the battle to the extreme, never once being touched from start to finish, only getting a little dirt and dust on him.
"Who are you?"
Zheng Tian, hands on her hips, leaned forward, her big eyes blinking curiously at Ren Zhong, "How do you know me?"
The reactions of the others were no different, all of them bewildered.
