A loud crack fills the air, and suddenly, the world tilts.
The table gives way beneath us, splitting apart, and we collapse onto the floor in a tangled mess of limbs and heavy breathing.
For a long moment, neither of us speaks, the only sound in the room is our ragged breaths and the occasional creak of broken wood.
Then, finally, I find my voice.
"Well," I pant, staring up at the ceiling, still reeling. "I think it's safe to say your grandpa was duped."
Lexus groans, rolling onto his back beside me. He's still catching his breath, but I can see the smirk forming.
"You think?"
I burst into laughter, despite the ache in my body. "I mean, an imported Italian maple table shouldn't break that easily, right?"
He chuckles, shaking his head. "Or maybe we were just too much for it to handle."
I roll my eyes, attempting to sit up, only to wince at the soreness spreading through my legs.
