As we made our way back to Riana's house, the air felt lighter, the weight of memories momentarily lifted. The sun had begun its slow descent, casting a warm golden hue over the farm.
Riana nudged me gently with her elbow. "I'm so glad you're here with me, Billie."
I smiled, bumping her back. "Of course. We're sisters—just from different mothers and fathers." I grinned. "And no matter what, I'll always have your back."
She wrapped an arm around my shoulder for a second before letting go, her expression soft but grateful.
As we stepped onto the porch and entered the house, we were met with the sound of laughter. Riana's dad was chuckling, and her mom's voice followed soon after.
"Riana, is really dramatic about colors," her mom said.
Riana and I froze, exchanging a sharp glance. Who the hell were they talking to?
