MAXUS'S POV
In the last 6 years or so, almost every female wolf had died either during or shortly after giving birth. It's why there were fewer female wolves in the pack. It was like a curse. Pregnancy was now seen as a death sentence.
Firstly, we didn't have a healer or physician in the pack who could properly tend to the women during the pregnancy and labour. However, that wasn't the only reason for their demise. Like Letizia, when she became pregnant, as the months passed, she started to become frail, and it only got worse with time. That was what had happened to many of the other pregnant wolves.
"Should I call Emil?" I asked Letizia as I helped her steady herself. Emil was her mate.
"No, I'm fine," she denied. "Don't give him any more reasons to panic."
