Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Journey to Blue Rose (2)

As Frenrin was being pulled in multiple directions, he decided that playing dead was the most optimal way to get out of the interaction.

Immediately, Frenrin relaxed all the muscles in his body, falling to the ground while the two children holding onto his arms tried to support him.

After a bit of time, as the kids grew worried, Paul eventually came and picked up Frenrin.

Frenrin was surprised; he didn't expect Paul to help him.

"Could he not tell if something actually happened to me?"

As Frenrin thought this, he heard screams in the background.

There were screeches, sounds of bones breaking, and furious shouts.

"Get away from my daughter!" one of the armed men shouted from a distance far enough from Frenrin that he couldn't see them.

"What's happening?" Frenrin asked Paul with a frown.

"The caravan is under attack from a horde of Chamreons."

Paul did not explain what a Chamreon was, even after Frenrin asked.

Paul and Frenrin walked toward a corner of the cave, near where the earth gophers were.

After about twenty minutes, Paul swung his sword at the air, and suddenly the air turned red!

A moment later, it revealed a human-sized chameleon with a scorpion's tail!

This happened twice more, and Paul effortlessly killed the next two Chamreons. After that, no more Chamreons attacked them.

Obviously, they sensed that Paul and Frenrin were not a free meal, so they continued attacking the children and women of the caravan!

Meanwhile, at this time, Garmr was hiding inside a crate in the carriage. He was not panicking; rather, he was relaxed.

About half of the children belonging to the caravan that had been fighting over Frenrin actually died!

After about an hour, all the Chamreons were either dead or had secured a meal and left.

In total, more than half of the children were dead, a quarter of the women, and about one-tenth of the armed guards.

Chamreons specialized in sneak attacks; once they got their kill, they would leave. They would not fight in a war of attrition; after a sneak attack, almost nobody died!

Obviously, the Chamreons dealt a fatal blow to the caravan, immediately killing half of the children.

After the Chamreons left, Paul tossed down Frenrin and then sat down.

"We're staying here until we depart in the morning."

Frenrin nodded in response, lay down, and started stargazing.

After a while, Frenrin drifted off to sleep.

As the morning sun rose, so did Frenrin.

Once again, Frenrin had a nightmare, but he wasn't in as much of a mess as he had been a couple of nights ago.

The two walked back to the center of the camp. Most were surprised that Paul and Frenrin had been outside the camp during the attack, but the leaders of the caravan knew about Paul and his background.

The leaders felt heartache; they knew that Paul could have easily warned or even stopped the attack by himself. But they understood Paul's personality and strength, so they didn't say anything.

The group set off again, and Garmr and Frenrin continued talking.

"Who's stronger, you or Paul?" Frenrin asked Garmr, who had a slight smile.

"Between us, it would be hard to say. Paul is very special. Demons are resistant to most elemental attacks, but Paul is efficient at close-range fighting, and I can't tell exactly what state his core is in."

"If the battle lasted longer than a few minutes, then it would likely be my win. But Paul seems to possess power that could bypass my defense, so it could go to him."

Garmr concluded his statement by saying it was about a 70% chance he would win.

After a long time of talking, even Frenrin's curiosity placated, he sat in silence until they reached the next camp.

The caravan once again set up their camp inside a cave, but that night, nothing happened.

In fact, nothing happened for the rest of the trip! The one night they got attacked was incredibly rare. Chamreons did not usually target large groups; they were, in fact, starving and had no other options. Most beasts would not attack a large caravan, at least not on the path that the caravan took.

The caravan was incredibly unlucky; they were caught unprepared and lost a huge amount of their future forces.

But nonetheless, the caravan eventually made it to Bluerose City.

The group of four split ways with the caravan and made their way toward one of the government buildings.

The roads were clean, and there were a large number of people; however, due to the wide roads, it was not crowded.

The buildings were made of marble, large and tall, commonly being white with blue roofs.

This was clearly a very extravagant city, the reason being Blue Rose Academy!

Bluerose Academy was not named after the city, but vice versa.

The city used to look like most other cities, slightly worse if anything. But due to Bluerose Academy being sponsored and run by a rank six Ren user, it became very prestigious.

Unfortunately, this person passed away long ago; he was human, so his lifespan was quite limited.

But his image was still displayed everywhere; the city's prestige was due to him, after all, and almost everybody held high respect for him.

His daughter was, in fact, the principal of the academy currently. She was in her upper sixties, had gray hair, but looked like someone in their forties.

Eventually, the group reached the gates of Bluerose Academy.

The Academy looked very similar to all the other buildings in the city; it was very large and had a blue roof. In the corners, there were towers that had turrets attached to them, resembling a cactus.

The color palette was consistent with most of the other buildings in the city.

Paul talked to the gatekeepers; they immediately bowed and opened the gate for them.

The gate was made of an incredibly dense material to restrict weaker earth users from manipulating it.

Obviously, anybody could fly over it or go below the gate. It was only there as a placebo and to stop the children from easily sneaking out.

The four walked inside; the hallways were wide and long, and the floor was made of dark oak. There were many paintings, sculptures, and pieces of art along and on the walls.

Frenrin did not care much for the art pieces, but he thought the building looked very nice.

Eventually, the four entered a room; the door was very large and made of the same material as the gate.

Paul opened the door without manipulating it; he brute-forced the door open with his hands easily.

As Paul opened the door, a large spear whistled past his ear. The three beside Paul went on guard, but Paul instead started laughing.

Paul laughed as he spoke, "Is this how you treat someone paying you a favor?"

A feminine voice responded, "What favor? You are only paying back what you owe."

She scoffed and continued arguing back and forth with Paul.

Eventually, she stopped and asked Paul, "Is that child the one who has the 'Death' element?"

Paul shrugged. "I don't know."

Alicia's forehead vein revealed itself; she was clearly getting tired of Paul.

"Child, come over here so I can check your core."

She beckoned Frenrin over, and he obliged.

Alicia put her hand on Frenrin's back, emitting some Ren into his core to check it.

Alicia's mood noticeably improved after confirming Frenrin had the 'Death' element.
