Before he could finish what he was saying, a loud hiss echoed through the chamber. The main doors unlocked, sliding open with a mechanical groan.
"The door's open!" Jake muttered.
"Move!" Arya urged, tightening her grip on Ambrose as his body swayed, his weight nearly collapsing against her.
Zack and Jake immediately moved to support him, draping his arms over their shoulders as they hurried through the now-open doors. The moment they stepped outside, Arya flinched.
"Ambrose, you're burning up." Her palm pressed against his arm, feeling the unnatural heat radiating from him. It wasn't just a fever — it feels like he was carrying the sun beneath his skin.
"I know why," Ambrose rasped, his voice lower than usual. His skin almost seemed to shimmer under the dim streetlights. "But I can't tell you here."
Zack shot him a sharp look. "What? Why?"
