That voice — calm, almost amused — sent a ripple of tension through Nicole's spine.
Clark's fingers twitched at his sides, ready to move if needed. He narrowed his eyes, scanning the figure before them.
"How long have you been here?" Clark asked.
"Well, I was here before you, I was just back there that's why you didn't see me," pointing at the end corner of the room.
It was Ambrose.
Nicole exhaled, tension coiling in her gut. Ambrose stood with his usual air of nonchalance, arms crossed, a knowing smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. His eyes gleamed under the dim corridor lights.
Nicole crossed her arms. "How long have we been in there?"
Ambrose's expression darkened slightly. "Longer than you think." He nodded towards the closed chamber doors. "And the others? They're still fighting."
Clark followed his gaze, his jaw tightening.
