I stood in front of the gates wearing the uniform I was gifted by the school—thank the Moon goddess. I can't afford a uniform. I can't afford anything, right now.
I don't want to go in, but I can't stay out here any longer. The other student keep giving me weird looks as they passed by. Their whispers grazed my ears, but I couldn't fully make out the words. I had to put my big girl pants on and walk inside (though, honestly, they feel like they've shrunk). After all, this is my first step to a better life.
This school is big as fuck; them people are rich rich. Everyone looked all polished and shit, I could smell the money from a mile away. I walked in and immediately noticed a beautiful girl with black hair and brown eyes. The second I stepped inside, she ambushed me, telling me to follow her. Talking about how the principal told her to take me to his office, blah-blah-blah. So being the follower that I am, I followed her—down the hall, we walked for a minute, then boom—principal's office.
The principal's desk sat in the middle of his office, with him seated behind it. His office was quite nice, and probably bigger than my house. That wasn't what grabbed my attention, it wasn't the nice designs either, it was the principal scent. His scent filled the room—so familiar it almost made my skin itch. I knew this smell, but from where? My old pack, obviously.
Apparently, the person who came to my old school is the principal's assistant. How do I know? I asked. He's human, so I stupidly thought everyone else here was too. But the principal, had the same scent that could be smelled all around me in my old pack, he was a freaking werewolf and not the only one if I had to guess. I hadn't noticed before due to nerves, but it's hard to miss this scent when it's the only thing that could be smelled in this room. My nose always acts wonky when I'm nervous.
"Are you ok dear?" The principal ask and I hadn't notice that I've been standing here staring at him while the pretty girl that brought me here already left. Traitor.
I shook my head before plastering on a smile, "Yeah, I'm just a little nervous" I chuckle awkwardly.
"There's nothing to be nervous about, now have a seat." He smiled.
He seems like a total sweetheart, though you wouldn't be able to tell at first glance, he was a big guy with a very serious face. Nice black hair that was gel intact and a surprisingly gentle smile but that's not enough to make me let my guard down. I sat down in one of the chairs that was opposite his desk.
"Sir—" I started before he cut me off. "Oh, please! Call me John. Being called 'sir' makes me feel old."
I let out another awkward laugh before continuing, "Ok John." I smiled "is there a reason you called for me?"
"I just wanted to welcome you to our school, personally."
"That's very nice of you" I answered, activating ass kissing mode.
"You're not the only new student we're getting so you're not alone, some won't be arriving today," he paused and I wonder why the hell he was telling me all this? Whatever. Not my problem.
"But I'll make sure to welcome them too, right now is about you." So why even mention them?
"You're just so kind" I replied.
"Welcome, Seren Holt, to Thornfield Institute." My smile got a little too big at that name—it always makes me laugh—but not in front of the big scary wolf.
By the way that's not my real last name, or first name for that matter, the people that abandoned called me Lena Voss, but I'm Seren Holt now—I'll tell you one day how I changed my name, but not today. Just know it wasn't random. And it wasn't really my idea.
I welcomed into the school and told to come to him if anyone gives me a hard time, John also said he asked someone to show me around school. He said that I should wait outside for the person and he hopes that I have a good day. John's a sweet guy. Sure, he's a wolf who could snap me in half, but I plan to never give him a reason to.
