"Hey, sunshine, I get it—you missed me. Can you let go of me?" Kael muttered.
"NO," Liz said.
"As much as I wanna keep doing this, we gotta find Caius," he added.
That got her attention, so she finally let go of him.
Kael turned to the woman next to Liz. She was on the ground, backed up against a tree, eyes wide with fear. As Kael stepped toward her, she panicked and started screaming.
"Don't come any closer!"
"Huh? Lady, I just saved you," he muttered.
"You… monster," she whispered.
Kael reached out a hand, but she started shaking even harder.
Then—BAM—Liz smacked him on the back of the head.
"Ouch! What was that for?" he asked.
"Stop scaring her, you idiot."
"I didn't do anything!" he muttered.
"You literally showed up screaming, 'I'll kill you all!'" she snapped, pointing at his chest.
"That was meant for them, not her!" he defended himself.
"Back off, you monster," the elf girl whispered again, still afraid.
"Hey, I got feelings too…" Kael mumbled.
