" Edric, I need to speak with you," Genevieve said, her voice firm.
Edric looked up from the papers on his desk, his eyes narrowing slightly. " What is it Genevieve? "
Genevieve took a deep breath. " I spoke to the prisoner in the dungeons. He said you are hiding a dark secret."
Edric's expression changed, his eyes flashing with anger. "Stay out of my past," Edric growled.
But Genevieve refused to back down. " I want to know the truth," she said, her voice steady.
Edric's face twisted with rage, and for a moment, Genevieve thought she saw a glimmer of fear in his eyes.
" Fine." Edric spat. " If you want to know the truth, I'll tell you, but now is not the time."
