Chapter 22 - The reason Why...

I came to this world a few months ago. In that time, because of my presence here, even though many might not know me, many have been affected by what I've brought about.

I destroyed a whole nation by using one skill which apparently has never been used before by anyone on this continent. I united all the lands of monsters into one and already built a city for them which is rapidly growing. In between that time, I had yet another nation destroyed by a monster who only attacked one city and the rest got abandoned.

Within thirty hours, I built a wall that divided the entire continent into two. As the wall appeared, it destroyed yet another city. Later on, the capital of another nation was attacked by monsters that I'm supposed to lead. Even though they didn't destroy the whole thing, it practically was.

That was a few weeks ago, however. now I've learnt of even more things that happened because of me.

Because of a randomly appearing wall, those that lived near it were scared and began leaving their homes just to stay away from it. They all moved to bigger cities further away from the northern border of those countries. The affected kingdoms were Thobrerean to the far east north of the Holy Kingdom Staseon to its left. Lets not forget the Reunen Empire.

All three of those originally bordered the sectors. So they were the ones affected. Large numbers of refugees came out of nowhere and started filling up other cities. Overpopulation led to insufficient resources, reduced sanitation because of too many people releasing waste and waste materials led to spread of new diseases, insufficient housing led to an increase of homeless people. All of that caused increase in crime rates.

People wanted more resources to live comfortably, they wanted clean water and medicine for the ill, they wanted homes to live in, they wanted to be safe from others. Competition for their wants is what caused the increase in crime.

People killed each other, robbed and even took over parts of cities and calling them territories. Each was owned by a group of bandits. This trend, however, only happened in one city in Thobrerean. It was therefore quickly curbed before a new trend began.

While all of this was happening, adventurers were hired to reduce the crimes by capturing thieves and murderers or doing anything they can to end all that was happening.

The most affected nation was Staseon, specifically, Aneville, one of the largest cities there. A total of 460 murders happened there in just three weeks. At first, the lord of the land dispatched knights to stop the killings by capturing them, but that was until they broke into his mansion and tried to steal his things.

They didn't succeed. Instead, they only showed how much of a threat they were to him. He had had enough and decided to hire mercenaries to make sure that they are gotten rid of by any means necessary for his own security.

Later on, many other nobles saw how successful he was in bringing back peace in his land and tried to do the same thing. However, things didn't go as planned.

Knights were practically given full authority to kill whoever they saw as unsafe. For some, it got into their heads and went astray. Eventually, they killed more innocents than the real criminals. King Gadeon of Thobrerean, Vortigern of Staseon and the emperor made laws against killings of any kind no matter what unless its a ruling by a judge.

Yet, even after all that, nothing changed. Chaos continued to engulf the west. More specifically, the two kingdoms. Peace had already returned in the empire. It seems that they had other ways of dealing with such matters.

Time passed. The two kingdoms finally got a chance to start investigating the root cause of their problem. Imagine the surprise of the leaders when they learnt a wall suddenly appeared on the north side of their borders. They were so shocked that they didn't even know what to do next or how they were supposed to end the cause of their problems.

The only logical solution was to seek help from the empire. They asked the emperor what they should do so everything could go back to normal. Instead of helping them he said this.

"There's no need for you to act. Our true enemy is much more terrifying than you think. Even if your two kingdoms unite to try and fight, there's nothing you could do as of now."

"Then what is going to happen? Will this be the new normal? Is destruction the future that awaits us? Please tell us what action we should take."

"You should focus on the problem at hand. You already have so many issues in your countries. Its not fair to make you fight."

"Fight?"

"A plan has already been put to place. The nations that have not gone through as much as yours did have united... Fear not, for hope is on the horizon."

For the past three days, the skies have been dark. Grey clouds prevented sunlight and warmth from reaching the ground. Temperatures had dropped quit a bit. Strong unnatural winds have been occurring pretty often. The weather phenomenon was weird to me. But apparently, its normal in Farglade.

A week ago, I decided to have a look at what was left of the capital of Aetheria, the last nation in the west.

I've been feeling really uncomfortable lately. After I saw the sword, I could tell that it was valuable. And usually, you don't pull out something so valuable easily. Which means that they were in dire need of it. either that, or they were too broken to realize their actions. both of which can occur when there's no hope left.

That means they had no way of coming out victorious, or they had already lost.

As soon as this thought popped up in my mind, I started thinking about every other time an event like that happened since I came to this world. That's when it hit me.

Two nations were destroyed and another might soon join them. That means that the entire western side was about to fall. All this began a few months ago. That's like saying all of Europe got destroyed in a few months by one person. Wait a minute.

The first thing I noticed was a wall that was currently being repaired. Or at least, that's how it seemed. Wooden beams were attached to each other that were supposed to become frames for the new wall, but they looked like they've been there for a long time. Their color had changed to a dark brown and the ropes holding them in place looked worn out. That wasn't a good sign.

I walked in to have a look around. Sure enough, the place was abandoned, just like Havvothj'air. Buildings close to the entrance of the city were destroyed. the road was damaged. Some debris had old dried up blood stains on them. Others didn't, probably because the rain washed it off.

But some buildings were still intact. In fact, they looked pretty clean. You could tell that some of them were reconstructed. It seems that they originally tried rebuild.

The wind speeds picked up as I walked towards the center. I wasn't sure at first when I looked from far so I went to confirm it. The palace was completely flattened. I was explained to that it was caused by a demon that appeared here. There was most likely no survivor. As soon as I came to this conclusion, I noticed that traces of a few people were still lingering around what's left of the palace.

It seems that there was a survivor. The person must've been protected in order to leave alive. But at what cost. If he was protected, it must be someone of high status, the king. By now, he's surely spread word of what happened here. Which means they know that it was caused by a monster attack. All the more reason to worry.

The wind speeds picked up again. At that point they weren't natural anymore. I began to wonder why the wind was like that when it suddenly stopped.

Then I felt like my heart dropped under pressure. My legs became weak for a second. I was right, the wind really was unnatural. Will I be able to make it back in time? No. Its too late. Why didn't I follow my own warning? I should never have left.
