Chapter 37 - Insurmountable Odds

"These doors—" Trick stumbled backwards, trying to absorb the full view of the gargantuan doors that stood before him and his master.

"Are way too large." Trick's eyes bulged in shock as even moving back, he still had to lift his head till he was almost falling on his back to see the full majesty of the colossal doors.

"Well that at least confirms one thing." Astravan placed his arm onto the mysterious door, sliding it across the grande door's surface as he walked, eying it probingly.

"Our Void beast culprit is definitely hiding something."

"Something really important." Astarvan turned towards Trick, his arms still placed firmly against the door's wide surface.

Trick made a weary sigh as he stared at the titanic principality which now stood before them in the form of two indomitable doors of elephantine magnitude.

Having the physical semblance of polished stone, yet differing slightly in its innate qualities, towers upon towers of an otherworldly materials aligned meticulously to form the gargantuan doors, gifting them both a rigid structure and just maybe.

An indestructible build.

Two large clamps of steel stood firmly lodged unto it. Trick questioned the point of this design as the clamps which were to be employed in opening up these doors were placed at an unreachable height across the doors.

Yet, even if these contraptions could be eventually reached, the door's tightly shut nature made any point of pulling the doors open to be overhauled in the dark depths of futility.

These were all clear characteristics that proved this door's impenetrability, however there was one which caught the discerning eyes of Astarvan's mind.

The sinister essence that coursed through the doors.

A red ominous energy constantly seemed to overflow through the doors, its vastness being so unbelievably high that it completely formed layers within layers of impregnable defenses.

Guaranteeing the invulnerable estate of the humongously massive doors.

Assuring the insurmountable veil of impregnability adorned by the titanic structure, and.

Plighting the hearts of everyone that beheld its glory with an enchanting feeling that sang a song, resounding the impossibility of getting past it.

"How in the world are we going to get in?" Trick swallowed hardly, observing the colossal doors in its full terror.

His face creased in thought and his eyes were firmly shut as he bit onto his lips, trying to find what he sought.

A plan to overcome the indestructible doors which like an immovable mountain, placed an insurmountable obstruction in his way.

'What's this?' Astarvan stopped his motion through the doors, turning to face Trick.

'The enchantment—'

Astarvan peered at Trick for a delayed period of time, the child's eyes closed in musing and his lips bit in thought as he pondered the best way to overcome the planetary odds that mockingly stared him in the face.

'It has no effect on him.' A wide smile spread through the Trickster's lips as he watched Trick stand, unwavered by the storms of dispiriting emotions spurred by the calamitous doors that stood before them.

The red energy was not for show, neither did it lunge headfirst into just the pools of defense.

But rather.

The scarlet energy which bathe the gargantuan doors in a diabolical red glow had something much deeper to it—

AN ENCHANTMENT!

A spell that plucked the strings of fear, doubt, inferiority, fright, and a crippling feeling of despair in the hearts of all its onlookers.

Aimed at the sole purpose of making every challenger lose heart in the face of its threatening splendor.

After all, if the greatest knight couldn't swing his sword, he could never even cut through the air which rested before him.

Yet, in the face of all the enchantments and the evident impossibility of victory…

'The Kid's still thinking…'

'Thinkingofapathtovictory.' The size of Astravan's smile stretched even greater as he watched Trick stand so engrossed within his thoughts that the child nearly forgot to even breathe.

'This Kid really is something!' Astarvan left beside the doors, heading over towards Trick.

'I knew it ever since I found him in that state.' Astravan reminisced his first encounter with the boy, before gripping onto his hat tightly as it laid atop his head.

'That's why soon enough—' Astravan reached for Trick's head.

'I'll be passing it on to him.'

'Soon enough—' A wide grin stretched across the Trickster's face as he finally reached the pondering child.

'It will be his turn!'

Astravan's hand gently covered the top of Trick's head as he ruffled the child's hair under his hands once more.

Trick immediately roused from his planes of thought, opening his eyes slowly to meet his master staring at him with a proud smile.

But, what the Master Trickster uttered next…

Shocked Trick to his very core.

"Let's go in Kiddo!"

Trick was taken aback by his master's statement, his face overhauling in stupefaction as he heard those four confident words voiced by his master.

"What?" Trick mumbled in confusion.

"How are we supposed to get past it?"

"…"

"…"

There was a slight calm in the air as a gentle breeze flowed across the room, lifting Astarvan's lengthy hair to dance gracefully in the wind's holdings.

"Well, that's the easy part—"

Suddenly, the winds started to faintly grow stronger, Trick felt its pressure change, before.

WHOOSH

Like a storm which slowly picks up speed, before bursting out into a scene of destruction.

The gentle winds which slept leisurely in the air suddenly began to billow violently, welling through Trick's clothes as the child held onto his backpack more firmly.

"We'll just have to break our way through!"

At Astravan's words, his hat suddenly gleamed in a purple glow, a little diamond crest drawing beneath his left eye as a surge of energy suddenly surrounded the Machiavellian Trickster.

The radiant purple essence surged through Astarvan, before welling up around his arm to form a glimmering coat of energy around his right arm.

The purple essence swelled rapidly, quaking the very room which Trick stood in and throwing the child off balance as he tried to maintain his stance.

And just then, when the powerfully knit energy had boiled to a certain threshold.

BOOM!

Like a dragon spewing out calamitous bursts of flames, Astravan released his clasped energy, his essence erupting out of his hands like a bright beam of pure destruction.

His blast raced forward, ripping through the air in front of it at incredible speeds before creating a titanic collision with the indestructible doors that stood before it.

Sending a thunderous sound to ring heavily in the air.

Trick buried his face within the covering of his elbow, trying hard to block the heavy winds that blew forth from the massive collision of his master's violent blast of energy.

As the dust finally began to settle, Trick opened up his eyes slightly.

However, what he saw after the clouds of dust rested was something even his eyes—

COULD NOT BELIEVE.
