Chapter 45 - Looking for the opportunity to win

[Please coment and Give me power stones!!]

Laws' breathing relaxed completely when I finished healing him and his severed arm regenerated completely the same way, leaving him completely intact.

"Finally..." I murmured in relief and let myself fall to the ground from exhaustion and fainted.

I don't know what happened next, but when I opened my eyes it was already night.

"nngh..." I muttered as I tried to get up, it was already dark and I was around a campfire.

I quickly looked at my hands and feet which were now completely regenerated and breathed a sigh of relief.

"I guess you're better now, right?" A female voice said from my right and I opened my eyes suddenly and looked at her.

"Wow...calm down kid...seems like you've been through a lot of stress lately huh?" The woman mumbled as she moved away from me slightly and I just lay back down.

"How long was I asleep?" I muttered.

"All day today, it just got dark" was his reply and I sighed.

I've been gone for a day and a half now, I need to get back to Hilda quickly...

"I have to go...how is Laws?" I mumbled as I slowly got up from the floor.

"He...hasn't woken up, but he looks much better now thanks to you," the woman said with a smile, and now I could see her better.

There was certainly an undeniable resemblance between her and Laws, or were all elves like that?...

"Oh dear...I know that look, you've noticed it, right?" she murmured as she covered her face with one hand.

"W-well, I don't want to sound racist or anything but you look identical to my partner Laws" I muttered slowly as I looked at her.

"Heh, they tell me that a lot, but he's better off not knowing... I'm Elinalise by the way, Elinalise DragonRoad and you're Paul right?"

"Yes, I'm...Paul Greyrat and what happened to us is a long story," I murmured with a weak smile.

"Heh, I can guess why, but even if I respect your decision, Talhand shouldn't take long with the rest of the firewood."

"No need...I have to go back to my own group, our group was ambushed by Millis soldiers and we were almost killed, I have to go now" I declared and so I slowly got out of bed.

"Well... you should wait for your partner to wake up at least, besides you have to eat something" she said while crossing her arms.

Now that I look at her properly...her thighs look quite plump and soft and her breasts, although modest, look quite attractive under her dress and...

"Hey, hey! We're not here for you to devour me with your eyes, that'll be for later." His voice, full of authority, made me shudder a little.

Eh? What the hell does that have to do with anything, miss?!

"Oh? The little sleeper is finally awake. You must be hungry." The dwarf's voice quickly reached my ears, and he came out of the forest with a couple of wooden logs in his hands.

"Actually, yes, I could eat something right now, thank you very much," I murmured with a smile.

"nnngh...Anna..." Laws mumbled in his sleep and then snapped his eyes open.

"P-Paul!! Where are you?!" He shouted in desperation just to see what he was eating with Elinalise and Talhand, but Elinalise for some reason looked away and didn't look at Laws...

"Oh thank goodness...I was so worried...did we really fall down a cliff?!" He wondered as he felt his limbs and then looked at my hands and his eyes widened.

"P-Paul?!, your hands!, you managed to get your hands back!!" He shouted with excitement and I smiled at him.

"Yes, because of the fall I lost both arms and with the magic circle that you carried I was able to save both my life and yours" I said extending my hand and so we both shared a handshake.

"Hah! And you guys tell me that I'm the one who saved us, right? Allow me to give you my sincerest gratitude. My name is Laws." The elf murmured with a smile and Talhand nodded, but Elinalise...

She kept avoiding him with her eyes and Laws narrowed his eyes and then they opened wide.

"m-mom?!...w-what are you doing here?!" Laws' scream left both me and Talhand in shock.

"Did you say mom?!" We both shouted in unison.

"Ha...I guess there's no point, right?" Elinalise's tone was one of resignation and she turned her head slowly to look at Laws.

"h-hello my son, h-how have you been? What's become of your life?..." She murmured and clenched her fists tightly. ""I guess not so well lately huh?" She sighed softly as she avoided looking into his eyes.

"m-mom it's you...I thought I'd never see you again..." Laws muttered as he slowly approached Elinalise and her expression soured.

"I-I'm so sorry I left you Laws...I-I'm really just a whore...you were an accident to me...b-but I don't regret it! I never regretted having you and I think I did a good job raising you, don't you think?" Elinalise's voice trailed off as Laws slowly advanced towards her "I-I know that for you what I did was unforgivable... I abandoned you without saying anything right on your birthday... b-but if you knew me w-as I really am... you'd even thank me." As Laws leaned closer, tears pooled in Elinalise's eyes while Talhand and I looked at both of them with complicated expressions.

"b-but I want you to know...that I never did it because I got bored of you or because I don't love you...b-but if even with that you can't forgive me and you hate me...I" Elinalise's words were instantly cut off as Laws hugged her tightly.

It was a hug of pure love and I could see faint tears coming from Laws' face.

"Shut up, Mom..just shut up, I could never hate you!!" He declared and hugged her tighter.

"Oh, Laws! My little one! I missed you so much!" She burst into tears and hugged him back. It was a touching moment that made me think of my own mother...

Shit...those thoughts are making me sick, I have to let them go now!!

...

The hug between Laws and his mother Elinalise lasted a good 5 minutes and when it ended they were looking at each other with big smiles and tears in their eyes.

"Laws... honestly when you told me about your mother I never thought she would look the same or a little younger than you" I murmured while eating.

This was cooking made by Elinalise herself, it was a roasted boar and vegetable meat, it was nothing special but it still served its purpose.

"Ah? What do you mean by that, young man?! I'm still young by the standards of my race!!" She said with a slight pout as she tore at the piece of meat with her teeth.

"Yeah well...Mom is a high elf after all and one of the few left too" he muttered as he scratched his nose and put a piece of vegetable in his mouth.

High elf, huh?....I heard those are the original type of elves and can live up to ten thousand years...

It would be better not to ask this woman's age.

"Yes, that's true, but enough about me for now, I'd like to know why you two fell off a cliff and why you had a holy-rank spell with you." Elinalise's voice suddenly became serious, surprising us all, and she looked at me and Laws with narrowed eyes.

"W-well...you see, miss, let me tell you everything from the beginning," I murmured and so I began to tell the story.

I told them everything they needed to know, starting with the mana disaster and how we were all in Ars and were randomly teleported around the world, and how I rescued my girlfriend from a slave market and for which Millis got angry with me and that because of that we had to flee, meeting Laws on the way.

It was just over half an hour of history with Laws intervening between periods to give more detailed information.

Elinalise, upon hearing this, was moved by my actions, but upon hearing Laws' problems, she began to cry again.

"hu...hu...hu...I am a terrible mother, if I had known that they would despise you so much in the great forest for being my son, I would never have taken you there!" Elinalise sobbed between tears while Laws comforted her.

"Hmm, certainly destroying an entire slave market is a formidable feat, I can see how Millis hates you so much now," Talhand muttered as he stroked his beard.

"Yeah...we were actually escaping from assassins a little while ago..." I mumbled and my expression turned serious.

"Laws... I need to talk to you seriously" I murmured.

He looked at me confused while comforting Elinalise who was calmer and walked towards me.

"What's going on? We'll be back?" He said, literally stealing the words from my mouth.

"e-eh yes, but I wanted to ask you if you wanted to stay with your mother longer or something like that" I murmured.

"Relax... My wife is out there without me yet... and I already feel like I've reconciled with my mother, something I always wanted to do," he declared with a smile.

"Hey? Are you leaving now?...I thought we could talk a little more," Elinalise murmured with tears remaining in her eyes.

"I'm sorry mom...my wife is still out there, I love you very much but I already have my life made" he declared and Elinalise looked at him in shock for a few seconds before nodding with a smile.

"That's obvious, my son. I would never ask you to choose between your future and me, but if you want to see me again...well maybe I should go see you...where are you going?" Elinalise muttered changing her mind at the end making Laws laugh.

"I'm heading towards the kingdom of Asura, more specifically towards the north of it, maybe I'll stay in Fittoa" he declared and so we said goodbye to the small duo that helped us when we needed it most.

...

Fortunately, the precipice from which we had fallen was not too far away, Besides, there was no other way to get to the road since Elinalise told us that she and Talhand had come here from the conflict zone.

The cliff was about a hundred meters high and was U-shaped towards where we had fallen, it was a strange formation because it extended like a mountain range and I could not see how far it extended.

Apparently they were the first mountain formations to reach the lower jaw of the Red Wrym but let's leave that aside.

"Paul...how are we going to climb?...I don't know how to climb mountains" a trembling Laws said next to me and I just smiled at him.

"Don't worry my friend, I have an ace up my sleeve!" I declared and placed my hand on the ground concentrating mana in it.

Laws looked at me in confusion for a few moments, but the next moment the ground around us began to shake and in a radius of ten meters the ground began to rise like a earth pillar.

"Wow!...W-what kind of magic is this?!" Laws shouted as he staggered and crawled to my side.

"We'll use this as an elevator, you better stay seated," I said and continued to grow the platform.

In about two minutes we reached the top of the cliff and with earth magic I created a bridge and so we reached the surface.

"Well...that's one way to get there" Laws muttered as he looked around, his bow had been destroyed by the fall so his mission was to return to the group as soon as possible, but for that we first had to locate ourselves.

Mauricio's group had walked for half a day off the road to reach this point. I have no idea how to find our way and unfortunately, Laws, being half-elf, has no natural orientation abilities.

"...we'll have to use another stone pillar" I muttered and so I placed my hand on the ground again.

We rose to a height of fifty meters, unfortunately there was nothing but forest around us and a small spot in the distance

"That's Shirone...but I don't see the way" Laws muttered with a frown just like me.

"Laws...if we find the mercenary camp would you be able to locate yourself again?..." I asked while staring at him.

The half-elf blinked for a few moments and scratched his chin as he looked at the ground, he remained like that for several seconds and then nodded.

"I think I can, the problem is where the camp is or if it's even there" he muttered and my frown deepened.

"Oh yeah..." My voice came out involuntarily.

It was obvious, they wouldn't stand idly by when they saw us escape, especially now that I was probably dead to them.

"But after all this, we have nothing to lose, right? We have to try," he declared seriously and Laws nodded.

We quickly got down from the stone pillar and began to walk cautiously through the forest with Laws leading the way, the sword my father had given me was destroyed, but fortunately My Sakka sword was in good condition so I always kept on guard.

We walked for ten minutes and Laws stopped dead in his tracks.

"over there...The camp is still here," Laws muttered as he slowly backed away.

I activated my battle aura even though it would be of no use and with my sword in hand I began to walk towards the place.

The campfire was dry, so it had been out for over a day and the place was eerily quiet.

With delicate steps I approached Mauricio's tent and...

"Haa!" I ran into the tent ready to attack, but the inside was completely empty...

"Oh shit...these bastards really left" I muttered as I sheathed my sword and looked outside.

At my relaxed demeanor, Laws breathed a sigh of relief and stepped out of the bushes.

We checked all the tents and they were empty...

But also...

"Oh shit...Paul, you have to see this" Laws' voice brought me out of my thoughts and I approached him confused.

"fuck it..." They were the corpses of two of Millis's four guards, the guys looked tortured and were missing arms and legs, both were on top of each other and due to the quality of their bodies They should not have been dead for more than a day.

"Who could have done this?" Laws muttered as he examined the bodies but found nothing.

"It must have been Mauricio himself, his guards must have been alert and because of him we are now free, or that's what I want to believe" I murmured with a smile.

He buries both bodies with earth magic and fortunately Laws was able to retrace his steps.

According to him, he followed the group all the way at a distance of fifty meters and waited for hours at night until he was sure everyone was asleep so he could rescue me.

I would be sure to thank him later but now it was time to return to our group.

...

It took us about six hours to get back to the road, it was past noon and I was already a little hungry, but nothing I couldn't handle.

Incredibly, we even arrived at the place where the battle was taking place, the bodies of the twelve swordsmen were already in the process of decomposition, which left an overwhelming smell of rot around them.

I won't lie when I say I threw up the little food I had.

We were still on a lucky streak because there was no one around and because of the way the path was created, we were able to position ourselves to the right and start walking.

The next city was a week away by carriage, I wish the group would be waiting for us there or something like that, but it would take us much longer to get there.

We continued walking for a couple of hours, along the way I found remains of magic in the middle of the road that according to Laws, Roxy used to block the bandits' path but they didn't follow them fortunately.

But still, I had a bad feeling...the more I walked it was as if I felt like someone was watching us, I had had this feeling twice already and it hadn't turned out well.

"Laws...I have a-

"!!!"

I didn't finish speaking and a Sonic boom pushed Laws away from me and a sword flew between them, without even looking at whose it was I took it with gravity magic and destroyed it into pieces.

"Damn bastard! Do you know how much that sword cost me?!" A familiar voice said next to me.

I didn't even have to turn around to know who it was.

It was Peikak and next to him was Donald and the other swordsman.

"You've really given us a lot of trouble, you damn brat! But now we won't have any mercy on you!" Peikak screamed and without wasting time I conjured a thick fog and ran towards a disoriented Laws.

"Damn cowardly boy!! Fight like a man!!' Peikak shouted with hatred but I didn't take it seriously.

The elf didn't have time to react, I held him in my arms and with a Sonic boom at full power I threw us both into the air to escape.

I knew that any attempt at confrontation would be in vain, so we had to retreat until we formed a good strategy.
