A sharp pain pounded in my head like someone was hammering it from the inside. My eyelids felt heavy, and my throat was dry. I blinked slowly, squinting at the soft lights above me.


I tried to sit up, but my body felt weak—like I hadn't moved in days. Everything around me felt hazy, like a fog had settled inside my mind. The room was white and smelled like antiseptic.


I turned my head slowly and saw my father, Killian, and… Damien.


Damien was the first to move. He leaned forward quickly, grabbing my hand like he was afraid I'd vanish.


"Selene, are you okay? Do you feel any pain? Are you hurt anywhere?"


He was looking at me like I was the most fragile thing in the world. His voice shook a little, filled with concern, his eyes never leaving mine.


For a second—just one second—I wanted to tell him how much my head hurt, how weak I felt, how confused I was…
