"What a motto," Alvin muttered under his breath, flipping the page to the start of the chapter; he looked at the other family names.

Looking at the domineering names of each of the leading six families of the vampire race, Alvin felt a bit of excitement to read about them, but just as he could choose the second family to read about, a voice broke his focus.
"Are you done yet?"
His hand, which was in the middle of flipping the page, paused. He looked over his shoulder and saw Vanessa standing there with a new book between her arms. "I am already done with the second book. You are so slow, Lord Alvin."
Alvin's training under the guidance of the monks almost failed when he saw the not-so-hidden smile on her face.
