Chapter 2 - The Eyes of the Void

Veil was drifting, suspended in a space that defied all logic—an infinite, oppressive void where no known rule seemed to apply. There was no up, no down, no direction, no anchor. Everything was still, and yet a strange tension seemed to vibrate within this non-existent air. Here, silence reigned supreme—absolute and crushing.

"What is this place? Am I... dead? But this doesn't look like what I imagined the void to be," Veil murmured, troubled.

He tried to breathe, but an eerie sensation washed over him. There was no warmth, no cold—only a total absence of anything familiar. And yet, he felt it… a weight without form, a growing pressure, as if something—or someone—was watching him.

"What is... this? Is someone there?!" Veil called out, his voice trembling.

It echoed. Stretched. Distorted. As if it were slipping through an endless chasm. The sound clung to his mind like a whisper worming its way inside, and a cold shiver ran through his entire being. When he tried to move, he realized his body wasn't responding the way he wanted. His movements were slow, fluid—but without substance, like the shadow of something that didn't belong here.

"Am I floating? Or... falling? Whatever this is, I want out. Now," Veil said, anxious.

Just as he tried to calm the panic rising inside him, shards of light suddenly pierced the darkness. Faint at first, they began to dance in the air, flickering like dying stars.

"Hey! Who's there? Answer me!" he shouted urgently.

But no sound came. The lights, once hesitant, began to grow stronger, gathering into a soft, pulsing circle. Silver and gold hues intertwined in a strange harmony—beautiful, yet deeply unsettling.

"This must be a dream. Yeah, it has to be a dream. But why does everything feel so... real?" Veil murmured, troubled.

He had no time to think further. An invisible force seized him without warning, hurling him through the void. A crushing weight pressed against his chest, as if the entire universe was forcing him toward an unknown destination.

"Stop it! Let me go!" he screamed.

The sensation of falling hit him instantly—brutal and overwhelming. A gust of wind—or something like it—rose around him, lashing his face. He was being hurled at blinding speed, swept up in a spiral of wind and light.

"No, no, NO!" Veil screamed.

Darkness gave way, slowly, to a blinding radiance. First a deep blue, almost soothing… then a searing white that stabbed at his eyes. The vague outline of a horizon began to form, but everything twisted, warped, bent around him.

"This isn't a dream. Everything feels too... tangible. Too clear," he murmured, worried.

Below him, the void stretched endlessly—bottomless, fathomless. No ground. No sky. Just an infinite abyss. Then, a thick mist rose up, swirling like a living entity.

"There has to be a way... a way out of here!" Veil shouted, his voice shaking.

Vague shapes began to take form within the mist. They were shifting, almost ethereal—and yet their presence was suffocating. Those blurry silhouettes were watching him, studying him with an unbearable intensity.

"Those... things... they're watching me. Why? What do they want?" he said, nervous.

The shards of light swirling around him drew closer, their brilliance intensifying until it became unbearable. Veil squeezed his eyes shut, but it was no use—the light pierced through even the darkness.

"Enough! What do you want from me?!" he screamed.

The lights merged in a blinding burst of clarity. A freezing shiver tore through his body as everything around him seemed to collapse—dragging him back down into the endless void.

Then, everything stopped.

Absolute silence. Crushing darkness. The mist vanished. The figures faded away. Veil was alone again, suspended in that same fathomless void.

"Am I... still alive?" Veil whispered, panting.

As fear and confusion crept in to swallow him whole, a voice echoed.

A deep, powerful voice—coming from everywhere and nowhere all at once.

"Why are you here, mortal? What right do you have to walk the edge of the void?" a mysterious voice echoed.

The voice felt alive—piercing straight into his mind—and another wave of shivers surged through his body. Veil instinctively looked up, searching for the source of that voice.

"Me? I... I don't know. I didn't mean to be here. I just want to go home!" Veil replied, trembling.

A deep, resonant laugh echoed through the void, making everything around him tremble.

"Go home? And yet, this is where it all begins," the mysterious voice declared.

Light burst out one final time, flooding every corner of the void.

Then—suddenly—Veil was pulled in, violently swept away from the emptiness, hurled toward an unknown destination.
