Chapter 21 - 21

The Countess Sarah's smile was not merely an expression of joy; it was filled with genuine excitement. She approached me with open arms and exclaimed enthusiastically:

"Oh my God! Come here, dear, I want a hug from you!"

I felt the warmth of her embrace, and embarrassment crept over me; this was my first engagement. My aunt hugged me affectionately before stepping back and looking at me with eyes gleaming with renewed enthusiasm.

"Believe me, dear, Kyle just needs some time to accept this relationship… but don't worry, I will make you a princess in his eyes!"

Then, she added firmly:

"We will celebrate your engagement in front of everyone so that people witness the generosity of the Strathmore family."

I smiled at her gently, then said in a calm yet firm tone:

"Aunt, regarding the celebration… I don't want it."

Her forehead creased slightly in surprise. "What do you mean?"

"I don't want anyone to know about my engagement to Young Lord Strathmore," I said confidently, then continued, "As you know, I have not yet reached the legal age, so I ask you not to hold a celebration. I want the engagement period to last a full year so that we can get to know each other well."

She examined me with a thoughtful gaze, so I continued:

"Besides, you understand that the age gap between Kyle and me might cause a stir, so it's better to keep things private until they become fully official."

My aunt gently

A grateful smile appeared on my face. "Thank you, Aunt, for understanding."

She waved her hand lightly. "On the contrary, I'm happy about this! Finally, my son will see a suitable wife for him!"

I glanced at my mother, Elenora, who had been listening in silence. With her black hair and calm blue eyes, she seemed lost in distant thoughts. But soon, she smiled and said to Countess Sarah:

"Yes, Countess Strathmore, this will be more than wonderful."

My mother and aunt continued discussing the engagement details until late. My aunt stayed for dinner with us before leaving with a warm farewell.

When I returned to my room, my mother told me in a serious tone:

"Don't tell anyone about the engagement until it becomes official, at least for a year."

I nodded in agreement.

A Meeting with an Old Friend

The next morning, I wore a lovely red dress and styled my hair into two soft braids that matched the outfit. The weather was beautiful, making me feel refreshed.

The driver took me to Monica's villa, where a maid greeted me at the front door. As soon as I stepped inside, Monica rushed toward me and hugged me tightly.

"I missed you so much, girl!" she said excitedly, pulling back slightly to look at me. "Why didn't you try to contact me? I know you lost your memory, but don't forget your best friend!"

I smiled at her apologetically. "I'm sorry, Monica. I came today to make it up to you."

She let out a cheerful laugh, then signaled to the maid. "Bring us some refreshments to my room."

I followed her to her spacious room, which looked like a private royal suite. With its soft colors, luxurious bed, and elegant tea table, it was even more lavish than I remembered. I sat on the couch as the maid entered, carrying a tray of drinks and sweets.

I picked up a glass of juice and asked with a smile:

"You look exhausted. Have you been staying up late again?"

She let out a small laugh. "How could I not? I've been busy all week! A party here, a meeting there, then that trip to the countryside… I feel like I haven't breathed in days!"

I raised an amused eyebrow. "You're the one who chose this busy life. You have no one to blame but yourself."

She closed her eyes in exhaustion. "I know, but it's better than being trapped in the manor. At least I feel like I'm living."

"And what have you done besides attending parties? Any exciting news?"

Her smile widened mischievously. "Oh, absolutely! Do you know that Lady Elinor is planning to engage her daughter to Lord Felix?"

My eyes widened in surprise. "That arrogant aristocrat? Poor girl!"

She chuckled. "Exactly! Everyone is talking about it. It seems the family needs to strengthen its political standing."

"Politics and marriages… nothing new in this world."

She leaned on her hand, then looked at me curiously. "And you? How have your days been?"

"Quiet, as you can see. No parties, no scandals, just a few simple engagements."

She leaned forward excitedly. "We need to change that! I'll get you an invitation to Lady Veronica's party—it's going to be spectacular!"

I sighed with a smile. "You know I'm not fond of such gatherings."

"But you need some fun! You can't spend your life hiding behind books and quiet conversations."

I smiled gently. "Your life is way too lively."

She hesitated for a moment before speaking in a serious tone: "Arwa, I have a little secret… Don't be shocked."

I looked at her cautiously. "What is it?"

She took a deep breath before announcing joyfully: "My wedding is this month!"

My eyes widened with joy. "Oh my God! Congratulations, girl!"

She laughed happily. "Thank you!" Then she grabbed my hands. "I want you to be my bridesmaid."

A warm feeling filled my heart. "Of course, I'd be honored!"

"I know I'll miss you so much…" she said with a shaky voice.

I asked her worriedly, "Are you moving to England with Leon?"

"Yes, he has business there, and he owns a luxurious estate." She sighed dreamily. "You know he's the son of a minister, so his social status is prestigious. My life with him will be wonderful."

"I wish you all the happiness, Monica."

We continued our conversation and agreed that I would attend her wedding next week. I decided to find a suitable gift for her.

As I followed the maid toward the bathroom, a man suddenly appeared…

In an instant, time froze.

Before I could utter a word, he rushed toward me and pulled me into a tight embrace.

"Oh my God… Whaaaat the hell is happening?!"
