Chapter 43 - The Slaughter Of The Cohort (2/4)

Sunny is NOT  messin around this time bros had enough

Sunny sprinted across the snow. He had managed to defeat Kai, or rather humiliated him and won with no worry.

But it wasn't over yet.

There were still 3 more he had to take care of.

The cold air bit at his skin, but he barely noticed it. His mind was already focused ahead, swerving through the trees aiming to find them.

The vast, illuminate shadowy space that spread out, searching for the remaining victims had picked up on the 2 hiding behind the tree. They stood with their backs on the tree, with snowballs on their hands.

He dug his heel into the snow, kicking up a spray of white as he changed his course before stopping shortly.

A short distance away, two figures stepped out from behind a thick tree. They had been waiting for him.

Effie and Cassie, Huh?

Well, he already knew that. He made sure to utilize all of his abilities to his advantage if he wanted to win.

No matter, they too will fall.

Effie was the first to move forward. She emerged from the tree with her usual confidence, a snowball straddling her hand. She wore a smirk on her face, but was quickly wiped away when she gazed at Sunny.

Or rather, at the mask.

Sunny could visibly see her shiver which arose a smirk on his side.

"…Someone's a little scary," she muttered, shifting her weight slightly.

Beside her, Cassie tilted her head. "What's wrong?"

"He's using that mask."

Cassie went still. Though she couldn't see it, the knowledge alone was enough to send a slight shiver through her.

Still, she nodded.

Effie exhaled, her hands flexing at her sides. "Alright, listen-"

She never got to finish.

In fact, Sunny was no longer standing where he had been.

Effie's body barely had time to tense before something cold and soft slammed into her face.

The impact wasn't brutal, but it was unexpected. Strengthening himself with all 6 of his shadows, he lunged toward Effie, whilst simultaneously shadow stepping making it seem he covered such a long distance in a mere millisecond. The snowball he had on his right pulled back..

Before slamming it into Effie's face.

Icy powder exploded around her vision, some might've gotten into her eyes.

The sheer force of it knocked her a step back, her boots digging into the snow to steady herself.

For a moment, there was silence.

Cassie stiffened at the sound, her lips parting slightly as if trying to process what had just happened.

Effie wiped a hand down her face, inhaled deeply, and let out a slow breath.

"…Okay."

She flicked the remaining snow from her fingers.

"…So that's how it's gonna be, huh?"

Sunny didn't respond. He only tilted his head slightly, the demonic mask making it impossible to read his expression.

Effie didn't need to see his face to know he was amused. Cassie could feel it, too.

- Ksch.. (lmfao imagine the sound of snow crunching)

A flicker of movement.

Cassie barely had time to prepare herself before Effie lunged forward again, this time moving faster. Her foot dug into the snow, launching her toward him.

She didn't throw a snowball this time. No, she was getting in close.

Sunny, of course, responded the same way.

Effie and Cassie's plan was simple.

Cassie would abuse the absolute hell of her foreshadowing ability to the max to stop Sunny from ever attacking. Effie would be the main antagonist of this fight, the knight who rushes in and fights whilst Cassie is the little princess that watches in the tower.

(man idk)

Cassie's ability flared, the world twisting as a future unfolded before her eyes.

She saw him step to the side, Effie overextending, a counterattack from behind. It was going to happen.

She reacted instantly. "Don't overreach!"

Effie adjusted mid-stride, shifting her weight lower, anticipating the counter.

Sunny… hesitated. Not much, just a fraction of a second, but it was enough to confirm it.

That sly.. she's looking forward in time.

A shiver ran down her spine, but she didn't have time to dwell on it.

Effie still went for him, ducking low and sweeping her arm in a feint before twisting her body to unleash the real strike, a packed snowball aimed straight for his chest.

It would've have hit.

If he hadn't already moved.

Shadow surrounded him, swallowing his form in an instant.

By the time Effie's strike landed, there was nothing there. Her fist-filled snowball met empty air.

Cassie's head snapped to the side just in time to hear a flicker of movement.

Above.

Her breath hitched as she realized her mistake.

Sunny emerged from the shadow cast by a nearby tree, dropping toward them from above like a phantom.

Effie barely had time to look up before a snowball slammed into her head, exploding into a shower of white.

She stumbled back, sputtering, hands reaching up to wipe away the cold as she let out a strangled noise.

"Blugh! It got all over my mouth!"

Sunny landed lightly on his feet, silent and unbothered.

He turned his head slightly toward Cassie, and spoke.

"I commend your actions, Cassie."

She swallowed.

This wasn't going to be easy.

Not at all.
