However, faced with the superior numbers and tactical expertise of the Konoha forces—comprising elite Jōnin, seasoned Chūnin, and even renowned masters such as Hatake Sakumo and the legendary Sannin—most of the fleeing Kirigakure shinobi were cut down before they could escape.
A handful of Kirigakure ninja managed to flee or, realizing the futility of resistance, chose to surrender. With the battle concluded, Konoha's forces quickly shifted to post-battle procedures. They meticulously gathered the bodies of both allies and enemies, confiscated weapons and rations from fallen foes, and looted abandoned supplies from Kirigakure's hastily evacuated encampment. Medical teams, led by skilled medics such as those trained under Tsunade, worked tirelessly to tend to the wounded.
Kirigakure's sudden and disorganized retreat had left behind crucial resources, easing Konoha's logistical burdens. It was only by dusk that the battlefield was fully cleared. Exhausted and caked in blood and dirt, the Konoha ninjas washed off the grime in a nearby river before returning to their camp for a well-deserved meal and rest.
The Counteroffensive
