Ethan's heart pounded in his chest, there was no time to hide and Maria had no plans of hiding either but as the door creaked open, relief flooded him, he thanked his stars, and he was indeed saved from the storm that would have befell him. It was just room service.
Maria, still standing where he had left her, watched as Ethan grabbed a fresh shirt and threw it on in a hurry. His hands were unsteady as he fumbled with the buttons, his mind still reeling and all he wanted was to get out of there.
Without another glance at Maria, he strode toward the door, adjusting his collar as he stepped into the hallway. He exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair, trying to shake off the weight of what had just happened. It was nothing. It meant nothing.
As he buttoned up his shirt, his thoughts shifted to Mara. He had to get back to her now.
