Calvin's POV
The line went dead.
Letty had hung up.
I dropped the phone from my ear as if it were something fragile. I gazed down at the black screen, my thumb hovering over the redial button. But I didn't press it.
What was the point?
She'd made herself clear.
The silence she left behind was more deafening than any words she ever would have uttered. She was being judgemental. And the worst part? It was totally within her rights.
My chest caved in on me, each breath tight and shallow as if I was trying to breathe through a vise. I rubbed both hands down my face and blew out slowly, with bitterness.
Letty was furious. And she wasn't wrong.
Still. I couldn't sit here. Not yet. Not without trying to see Lily one last time.
Maybe I should visit Lily's again. Just one more time. Just to be sure.
If she slammed the door in my face again, I'd leave her alone. I'd give her the space she clearly needed, no matter how it killed me.
