"C Rank." The receptionist said, his eyes quickly darting up to see Sin's reaction.
Sin's eyelids narrowed slightly, "Hmm..." He muttered under his breath for a second, "That's actually pretty damn good."
He got his Hunter ID, which was a small card with his face and name, along with his assigned rank beside it.
...
Sin left the Hunter Guild, arriving back at the Inn that he stayed in the night prior.
Now that he had become a Hunter, he had the ability to begin doing quests and ranking up.
Before that, however, he was going to take in all the information that he currently had slow. Firstly, he wanted to fully check out his system.
This was an unknown, abrupt force in his life. He wanted to see just how much he could figure out about it as soon as possible.
For all he knew, there were many things that came with this system that could help him greatly more than the amount of help he had already received.
If not, the new chance at life he had gotten from the system would have been good enough as well. But it wouldn't hurt to try and see what more there was to the power.
Now that the unplanned sudden Hunter Exam was out of the way and the day was beginning to get closer to its end, Sin was going to return to his room and check out this system.
The moment he stepped inside of the Inn, he hid his head slightly by facing downwards. He decided he was going to do this every time he entered an establishment for the time being.
He knew that at the very least, Agneil's eyes were certainly on him. He had some paranoia, but also a good amount of intuition that the fatty was on the hunt for him.
Taking a few steps into the pub, a small group of people brushed past him. He couldn't get a good look at most of their faces since he was looking at the ground, but for a moment, he glanced and saw a familiar face.
'Agneil?' Sin said inwardly, his eyes expanding as he quickly faced the other direction and slid by.
The fatty walked fast with his comrades, hastily exiting the Inn as if he and his people were in a hurry. He also had a slight smirk on his face.
Sin faced the ground in shock as he continued walking forward, 'What in the hell is my luck? Tsk... he must have been looking for me here. I wonder if anyone gave away my location. And why was he smiling anyways?'
He shrugged this off, just hoping for the best.
At that moment, he nearly bumped into another person who was standing like a brick wall right in front of him, seemingly refusing to move.
For a second he was confused why this person was standing in his way. He looked up at their face, only to see that it was Ince.
"Ince? What are you doing here?" Sin asked, not expecting to see this woman here.
"Waiting for you, of course." Ince replied, her hands crossed and her tone quite casual.
"For me? What do you mean?"
"I saw you at the Hunter Exam, remember?" Ince said.
Sin had a thought about that statement: "What were you doing there in the first place? Got a hobby for Hunter Exams or something?"
"Don't worry about what I do in my free time," Ince said in a slightly joking manner, "Anyways... since you are here so early, I imagine you passed the exam. That's what I was hoping on anyways."
"How did you know this was the first place I'd come? Even if I passed, I could have gone somewhere else..."
"Somewhere else? You? This is your second day in the city and clearly have nothing else to do... where else would you go?"
"That's..." Sin paused, "Well what did you want to meet with me for anyways?"
"Yes, about that. I was hoping you would pass. From what I saw of your test performance, even though you passed, it seems you struggled to do so."
"Huh? Actually, I--" Sin was cut off. For a second he wanted to let Ince know that she only saw the worst parts of it, and that he actually got the best score!
But unfortunately for Sin, it seemed Ince had no plans on stopping the conversation.
"Don't worry, I'm not judging. You don't have to sugarcoat it. I don't mind if you are weak. All I want is for you to be a Hunter."
"Oh..." Sin said. Ince was moving so fast that he didn't feel like he needed to clarify.
"Me and my Hunter Group are doing a quest tomorrow. It's quite a big one, with high pay and opportunity. I want to personally invite you to join us." Ince paused, her eyes open wide with a bright look on her face.
Sin could feel the anticipation gleaming in her eyes. The small smirk on her face was nearly about to burst into a grin as she waited for Sin to reply.
"Are you sure?" Sin didn't know what to make of this proposition. Of course, it was an amazing opportunity. But why was Ince being so nice to him was something that felt unexplained.
So, he asked: "Why do this? For free? For a person you barely just met..." Sin shook his head, a bit confused.
Ince chuckled, punching Sin lightly on the shoulder and sparking him out of his little daze. She then said: "Don't be so silly... I'm not just helping you out for no reason." Ince turned, walking away. Sin followed, since Ince had not finished speaking.
"I'll take your reply as a yes." Ince paused, "And yes, I am helping you. I helped you last time as well, when you first came to my Hunter group's table. I relate to you, Sin... my parents are no longer in my life either. When I see people with similar backstories, I can't help but feel bad for them. I can't help but try to assist them. However, I would be lying if I said that that was the only reason I am recruiting you."
Ince arrived at a table where the rest of her Hunter group was sitting. They all seemed to be waiting for Sin to come.
Sin quickly scanned all of their faces. Everyone looked fairly serious. But then, they all burst out into laughs and smiles.
"He came!" Roby, the large man, shouted out loud, "That means he agreed to join, pahaha!"
Kael, who was sitting next to Roby, clinked peg edges with him: "We got a new member, folks!"
A few other people sitting around turned and cheered and laughed for a couple seconds as they heard this.
Ince finally turned and faced Sin. With sincere eyes, she said: "This mission is an escort quest. It's simple... help a young noble complete his first ever dungeon. However, we need a group of 5 hunters to escort this young man because he is higher up when it comes to the societal hierarchy of status. And so, knowing that you are struggling and most likely need the experience, money, and credit, and also that you would be the perfect final fit for this 5-man mission... I humbly ask of you to join us. What do you say?"
Everyone's eyes suddenly all turned to face Sin, who immediately felt the pressure of everyone weigh down on him.
