"Moon Child, of course," Eryx replied with a small chuckle, trying to lighten the mood.
She couldn't help the small smile that tugged at her lips despite the heaviness on her mind. "Stop fooling around."
The sound of tires crunching against the driveway gravel made her freeze. Her spine straightened instinctively, her grip tightening around the phone. She turned toward the window, the headlights slicing through the darkness outside, illuminating the shadows on the wall like stark warnings. "I gotta go, Ryx," she said quickly, already lowering the phone. "We'll talk later."
