Ren's hand snapped out, grabbing Lilith's shoulder. She froze. She was already halfway out of her seat, a snarl on her face and her hands reaching for Valen.
Valen didn't even flinch at the motion, staring straight at Ren.
Lilith glanced at Ren in confusion, before glaring at Valen and slowly sitting back down.
"Why do you ask, Valen?" Ren asked as he lifted his hand off Lilith's shoulder, a pleasant smile on his face. Through everything that had just happened, he hadn't even broken eye contact with Valen.
If someone had been listening and not actually looking at them, they'll leave with the impression that it was just a lovely dinner, but the tension in the air was thick enough to be cut with a knife.
"It is very… strange for an Albion noble at the edge of the kingdom to know information that even I, a resident of Elnoria for many years, learnt by looking death in the eye." Valen said calmly.
"Are you calling me stupid?" Ren asked, chuckling.
