Chapter 7 - Life

March 12

We've finally done it—we have a home. A real home. It's hard to believe after everything we've been through. The house feels way too big for just the two of us, but it doesn't matter. For the first time, we're not out on the streets, shivering in alleyways or hiding from passing monsters.

Papyrus is going to school now. Every morning, I send him off to the citadel, and every evening, I'm back home before he arrives, waiting with something to eat. It's nothing fancy—just whatever I can scrape together—but seeing him smile when he walks through the door makes it worth it.

This house… it's not just walls and a roof. It's a place where we can start over.

April 5

The years are going by faster than I expected. I managed to save enough to buy the house outright—it's ours now. No more worrying about rent. No more looking over our shoulders. We've built something here, a life that feels normal.

The people of Snowdin have been kind, or at least, they leave us alone. That's all I could ask for. Papyrus and I are finally fitting in, just two skeletons living in a quiet, snowy town.

Grillby helped us with something big today: names. Real names. He suggested we take the letters we used to be called—S and P—and turn them into something new. That's how I became Sans, and Papyrus got his name. I can't explain it, but having a real name feels like… freedom. Like we're finally real.

June 30

Papyrus has big dreams now. He wants to join the royal guard. I don't know if it's because he really admires them or if he just wants to prove something to himself, but either way, I'm proud of him.

To support him, I had to find more work. Grillby gave me some advice about getting better jobs, so I started applying everywhere. Now I'm juggling so much at once—sentry duty, hot dog stands, even helping the new royal scientist in the lab. I hate that part. Walking back into a lab after everything we went through makes my bones ache.

Still, I'll do whatever it takes. Papyrus deserves every opportunity, and I'll make sure he gets it.

August 10

I never thought I'd end up working directly for King Asgore, but here I am. After all these years, I finally talked to him again.

The first time we met was back in the citadel. He was curious about me—said I was the first skeleton he'd seen besides Gaster. I panicked and ran. Not my proudest moment, but I wasn't ready to face anyone like him back then.

This time, he remembered me, and surprisingly, he wasn't angry. He actually offered me the position of royal judge. I don't know why, but he seems to know something about me, something I can't quite figure out. Whatever it is, I don't think it's good.

Still, the job pays well, and it gives us some stability. That's all that matters right now.

October 3

Papyrus was painting a sign today for the library in Snowdin. When I asked him if he was doing it for money or just for fun, he got distracted. The next thing I knew, the sign said "Librarby."

I couldn't stop laughing. He was so embarrassed, but I could tell he was trying to play it cool. Everyone in town noticed the mistake, but no one found out it was us. Papyrus said it was a "momentary lapse in focus" and swore he'd do better next time. I just ruffled his skull and told him not to sweat it.

Life feels… good, for the most part. It's not perfect, but it's ours. And after everything we've been through, that's enough for me.
