"Have you played it yet?"
"Yeah, have you?"
These two questions had now replaced the traditional greetings among Hogwarts students. Instead of asking about classes or gossip, everyone was eager to know if the other had tried the new gaming console—
"I did, but I got stuck on the third level of Save the Wizarding World."
"Same! I've been stuck on the Dementor boss for two days!"
Such conversations echoed throughout the halls of Hogwarts. The students' discussions had shifted entirely from academics and rumors to game strategies and experiences.
By early October, the gaming console had taken Hogwarts by storm.
It had become the ultimate must-have item.
Although the console was expensive, Jane Yu's rental service made it accessible even to students with tighter budgets.
At the same time, she introduced a customization service, offering personalized skins based on individual preferences, which helped her tap into the high-end market.
Her Galleons were piling up so fast that they nearly filled a suitcase enchanted with an Undetectable Extension Charm. This made her pet Niffler ecstatic—it no longer felt the need to escape in search of shiny treasures.
Unfortunately, due to the LeMay couple's hardware limitations, the 1.0 version of the gaming console didn't support multiplayer functionality. For now, students could only play solo.
But the agony of solo gaming was this—
After finally overcoming immense challenges and completing a game, they had no one to share their excitement with, nor could they satisfy their competitive urge to prove who was the better player.
This gave rise to the Hogwarts Esports Club.
When Jane Yu was brought to the club's headquarters—a repurposed abandoned classroom—by her partners, the Weasley twins, who were in charge of Gryffindor sales, she was momentarily stunned into silence.
The desks and chairs had been rearranged into a circular formation, perfect for face-to-face competitions among the members. The walls, windows, and blackboard were covered with fan-made stickers and drawings, including chibi versions of Jane Yu, Erumpents, Fire Crabs, and more.
"We remodeled it together," Fred said proudly. "The entrance is hidden. To outsiders, it just looks like a painting of a red-hatted figure."
"That's mainly to keep professors and Filch out—if someone without a console touches the painting, the red hat will throw dung bombs at them," George added with a mischievous grin, clearly proud of their ingenious idea.
Hearing their conversation, the students gathered in the classroom, happily gaming, all looked up. Their eyes were shadowed with dark circles, and their bloodshot eyes hinted at sleepless nights, but their spirits were high.
When they saw Jane Yu, their eyes lit up with a ravenous gleam, and they surged forward, knocking over desks and chairs in their rush—
"By Merlin's underpants—it's Yu! The real Yu!"
"Miss Yu, queen of the wizarding world! I'll have your children, ahhhhhhh!"
"Yu looked at me! She looked at me! She loves me! Marry me! Marry me now!"
Jane Yu wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear.
With the twins shielding her, she managed to break through the enthusiastic crowd and reached a bulletin board.
It was covered with colorful notes and game stickers, filled with students' comments. Some were game reviews:
"There's a lot of bad stuff in this world, but very few things are gloriously bad. Yes, I'm talking about you, Flying Erumpent. You're bad in a way that's transcendent, soul-crushing, and as bad as Snape's potions!"
Below that was a string of mocking replies—
"OP got wrecked, LOL."
"OP probably can't even get past 500 meters, ROFL."
"I'm OP's console. He can't even make it past 100 meters!"
"If you're bad, just practice more. If you can't handle it, don't play—"
They had even instinctively adopted a forum-style format:
[OP]: Looking for a gaming buddy. 11 PM after curfew—Save the Wizarding World and Wizard Duel completed. Competitive racing preferred. Will prioritize anyone bringing drumsticks.
1st Reply: My friend, you are a true warrior!
2nd Reply: Clearly, OP is a Gryffindor. Can you Gryffindors stop sneaking out at night? Is this how you use your courage?
Address? Contact info? I'm going to crush you!
3rd Reply: Just a reminder: sneaking out violates curfew. If caught, it's at least a 20-point deduction—
But I support 2nd Reply. Slytherins sneaking out to beat Gryffindors is always a good idea!
4th Reply: As much as I'd like to join, I'm scared of losing points too (LOL). I don't want to be the disgrace of Ravenclaw.
5th Reply: Don't worry, my Hufflepuff friend. If Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin all sneak out together, the point deductions balance out to zero! Dynamic equilibrium!
6th Reply: You really understand dynamic equilibrium.
7th Reply: You really understand point deductions.
8th Reply: But what if you run into Snape? Then it's bonus points for Slytherin!
9th Reply: Exactly!!! So sneaking out is risky, and gaming requires caution!!!
10th Reply: But isn't the gaming console that makes us all sneak out at night also to blame? Isn't Yu responsible for designing it?
11th Reply: How could Yu be at fault? If anyone's to blame, it's the professors! Why won't they let us play in class?
12th Reply: Makes sense. I support 11th Reply.
At this point, Jane Yu couldn't help but glance at the hourglasses in her mind...
All four houses seemed to have lost a significant amount of points.
Everyone was equally and collectively regressing.
She then looked at another post, a pink card that caught her eye—
[OP]: Yu-senpai brushed past me today and even glanced at me. She must like me (appears with a rose in mouth).
1st Reply: Someone wake OP up. What a daydreamer.
2nd Reply: Awakened. Next.
3rd Reply: Awakened. Next.
4th Reply: Awakened. Also, she's our Slytherin senpai!
5th Reply [OP]: Nonsense! Senpai belongs to everyone!
Senpai is Hogwarts', and I'm from Hogwarts, so senpai is mine.
6th Reply: Saw the title and rushed in.
If not for senpai tutoring me in Charms earlier, I might have believed OP's nonsense!
7th Reply: Another one who needs awakening. Drag him out and beat him with sticks!
8th Reply: Speaking of roses, I saw someone propose to Yu-senpai with one today—
9th Reply: My thirty-foot sword is ready. Elaborate.
10th Reply: It was a first-year Ravenclaw, but he didn't even start. He pricked his mouth and cried on the spot (LOL).
11th Reply: Relieved. Almost couldn't put the sword away.
Jane Yu felt her toes curling in embarrassment.
Such fervor was too overwhelming for her to bear.
"Yu, I love you!"
"For Yu, I'll live, go crazy, and bang my head against a wall!"
No matter where she went, she was swarmed by students. Requests for autographs and photos were tame compared to others kneeling on the spot, reciting wizarding versions of Shakespearean sonnets to propose, or even screaming as they tried to lick her shoes!
She wanted to scream like a groundhog: "Stay away from me!!!"
Feeling utterly drained.jpg
Desperate, Jane Yu secretly sought out Harry—
"Harry," she said, utterly exhausted, "can I borrow your Invisibility Cloak?"
Harry took a deep breath!
He completely understood the feeling of being forced into the spotlight. When he first stepped into the wizarding world, he too had wanted to disappear on the spot!
And this was a request from Jane Yu! His savior! The guiding light of his life!
This Invisibility Cloak would be blessed to be used by her!
"Of course!" he said, handing over his family heirloom without hesitation. "You can use it for as long as you need!"
To be honest, if it weren't his father's keepsake, he might've given it to her outright!
Such generosity might have made the Potters' ancestors turn over in their graves, cursing him as a wastrel.
With the Invisibility Cloak, Jane Yu was finally free from the constant attention.
She could now quietly go about her part-time job of burning tree branches.
But as she finished the task one day, she was intercepted by Peeves.
