Jane quickly dodged behind a pillar.

But they were too close - she couldn't evade in time as the green light was about to strike her shoulder.

At this critical moment, a mournful bird cry suddenly pierced the air.

It was Fawkes!

The phoenix dove in front of Jane, opening its beak wide and swallowing the green beam whole!

Phoenix flames instantly erupted as Fawkes transformed into a fireball and fell to the ground, beginning its rebirth—

As the flames died down, Fawkes emerged as a bare baby bird, a wrinkled bundle on the floor.

Its black button eyes opened, reflecting Jane's image as it called to her urgently.

"A phoenix?"

Tom Riddle could never have imagined Dumbledore's phoenix would come here!

A phoenix taking the Killing Curse for a witch who wasn't its master - it was unthinkable!

"What's your relationship with Dumbledore?"

He roared in fury. Seeing his first attack fail, his features twisted further as he raised his wand for a second strike.

"Avada..."

But the wand in his hand fizzled out. His body became transparent, clearly depleted of magical power and unable to continue fighting.

"Damn it, not enough power—"

Seizing the opportunity, Jane tucked Fawkes into her pocket with one hand while drawing her own wand with the other, aiming at his hand:

"Expelliarmus!"

Lockhart's wand spun out of his grip and flew into her hand.

Wandless, Riddle's expression flickered with panic for a moment before he snarled:

"Impossible! How could a student have two wands!"

Various possibilities flashed through his mind.

Was this an adult wizard who had taken an Aging Potion?

A professor in disguise?

Could it be Dumbledore himself, to have Fawkes take the Killing Curse?

After all these years, that detestable Dumbledore was still so cunning, hypocritical, and sanctimonious!

Too cowardly to even use his real name, claiming to be Salazar Slytherin instead!

Daring to appear only in the guise of a little girl to lower his guard!

"Who are you really?" he demanded harshly.

Jane gave a cold laugh, pointing both wands at him:

"I am your ancestor!"

At these words, Riddle instantly flew into a rage.

"Still defiant even at death's door!"

He crossed his arms, watching contemptuously as spell after spell from Jane passed harmlessly through his semi-transparent form. His maniacal laughter echoed through the dark Chamber:

"You think ordinary spells can harm me! How amusing!"

He strolled casually to the statue, stopping between the towering pillars to gaze up at Salazar Slytherin's face:

"Surely you don't think waving a wand is my only means of attack!"

He opened his mouth, emitting hissing sounds in the language of snakes.

The giant stone face began to move, its mouth opening wider and wider until it formed an enormous black hole.

Riddle's lips curved into a triumphant smile as he turned to look down at Jane:

"Prepare to die!"

He continued speaking in Parseltongue. Had Jane understood, she would have heard him say:

"Kill her."

But after all his hissing, no snake responded.

The Chamber was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

The smile vanished from Riddle's face, only to appear on Jane's.

In disbelief, he flew up to peer into Slytherin's stone mouth, as if trying to stuff his entire head and body inside.

"Where is my snake? Where is my snake—"

He hissed again frantically, whipping his head left and right, his calls growing increasingly desperate.

The Chamber remained deathly silent. The basilisk that should have emerged from the statue's black hole, hissing in response to its master's call, was nowhere to be found.

"Your snake is right here—"

Jane's voice rang out from the corner.

While he had been searching, she had already slipped over to the dead basilisk's side with the diary and both wands.

Riddle looked in her direction, finally spotting the thoroughly dead basilisk in the corner. His eyes filled with rage:

"You actually— you actually—"

The rest of his words caught in his throat, transforming into a scream that would never be completed.

"AHHH—"

Because Jane had pierced the diary with the basilisk's fang, causing ink to gush out violently.

Riddle's body contorted into grotesque shapes, his limbs thrashing wildly in the air as his agonized screams reached an ear-splitting pitch that nearly burst Jane's eardrums.

With hatred and unwillingness, he glared at Jane as if trying to say something, but quickly vanished into thin air.

The last words he heard in his soul-life were:

"I worked so hard being your ancestor for almost half a month—"

"And you wouldn't even call me 'ancestor' once—"

"Let's compromise, 'mother/father' would work too, especially with 'god' in front of it."

The victim Riddle deeply regretted his gullibility.

If he could live again, he would definitely shout:

"Beware of telecom scams!"

...

Jane tossed aside the diary, which was sizzling as the venom corroded it, like a steak on a hot grill.

She walked to Slytherin's statue and climbed up from his feet, quickly making her way up the carved wizard's robes to perch on his protruding beard.

A conspicuous position that made her look even more like Slytherin's heir.

"Jane Yu!"

The professors finally burst in, sending binding and stunning spells flying toward her.

Jane didn't try to dodge, contentedly closing her eyes as a stunning spell hit her.

With both witness and evidence present - attacking a professor and multiple students, opening the Chamber and releasing the basilisk—

It was enough to earn her expulsion!

But what she didn't see was Harry's fingers twitching slightly as he lay on the ground.
