As I stepped out of the car, I bid the chauffeur farewell and again dialed my parents' number to ask about my little sister's health.
I had been calling for more than an hour now, after what seemed like My mom answered, and I could sense the worry in her voice.
"Hey, sweetie, how are you?" she asked, trying to sound cheerful.
"I am fine, Mom. How's Olivia?" I asked, my concern evident in my tone.
"The surgery went well, but she hasn't regained consciousness yet," my mom replied, her voice cracking with emotion. "We are all worried sick about her."
I felt a pang of guilt and anxiety, wishing I could be there with my family. "I am so sorry, Mom. I wish I could be there with you guys."
"We know, sweetie. We just want you to be safe and happy," my mom said, trying to reassure me. "How are things going with Alpha Ian?"
"It's...complicated, Mom," I replied, unsure of how much to share. "But I think we're making progress." I lied so she wouldn't get too worried.
