As if only a minute has passed, phosphenes invade my sight and wake my senses, while a sharp tinnitus fades in and rings in my ears.
I open my eyes tardily, only coming to find water ripples filling my vision. My senses are weak, I can only see dim orange lights refracting in the water.
By the time I see bubbles escape my nose and mouth, I finally come to realise that I am sinking inside a medium with no air to be consumed——I am drowning myself in water.
With the tinnitus in my ears turning louder and louder, I know I am running out of breath. Hence at once, I sharply push myself up and sit up from where I have been lying.
"Hahh…!"
Cold water streams down my head and covers my face. With my wet palms, I brush my hair to the back and run them down my face. Deep and rapidly I pant, just as though I have been submersed in the water for quite a while.
