Chapter 139 - Chapter 139: Saving Hayate Gekkou

Chapter 139: Saving Hayate Gekkou

Despite Ino's success in developing Yang Release chakra through rigorous training, her medical ninjutsu was still far from impressive.

Her Yin Release was too potent, while her Yang Release lagged behind. Her natural affinity leaned heavily towards Yin, and her healing techniques were rather rudimentary. It was often a case of "cure one, kill one."

A several-hundred-pound pig, after receiving her treatment, peacefully expired on the spot.

Hayate Gekkou, who usually looked like a consumptive ghost, how did his constitution compare to that of the pig? Ino was more than a little worried.

People earned impressive nicknames like the Sannin of the Leaf, the White Fang of the Leaf, or the Yellow Flash. But if she ended up with a moniker like "The Killer Doctor," she felt she would be letting down all the medical texts her shadow clones had diligently studied.

As Ino followed Yuugao back to the village, she pondered deeply.

Did she have a way to heal Hayate Gekkou?

Actually, she did.

"I understand what the Third Hokage meant. Lady Tsunade's summon should be able to save Hayate Gekkou. Let's head back now!"

On the way, Yuugao, forcing herself to remain composed, explained what had happened.

There wasn't much to tell. Earlier that evening, during her patrol, Aoi had detected a faint scent of blood in an alley. This woman, who had traveled across many nations as a spy, possessed a heightened sensitivity to blood and sounds. She discovered Hayate Gekkou severely injured in an abandoned building.

Hayate was covered in wounds and had long since lost consciousness. Aoi brought him to the Leaf Hospital, but the senior medical ninja lacked the confidence to perform surgery. His injuries were simply too extensive. Ultimately, the Third Hokage, maintaining his composure, thought of Ino and believed she could save Hayate.

The group rushed to the Leaf Hospital at breakneck speed. There, they found Hayate lying on the operating table, drenched in blood. Several medical ninja were attempting to stop the bleeding, but medical ninjutsu essentially stimulates the patient's cells to regenerate. This regeneration wasn't a cure-all; often, as a wound on the arm healed, a wound on the abdomen would reopen. When the abdomen was treated, the neck would start gushing blood like a fountain.

Overwhelmed, the medical ninja were sweating profusely, while Hayate's breathing grew weaker and weaker.

The Third Hokage and Kakashi were both present, along with the advisors, Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado.

Ino hurried in, and the Third Hokage gave her a slight nod, signaling that she needed to act quickly – Hayate was running out of time!

Saving a life was as urgent as extinguishing a fire. Ino also believed that a "Wind Chronicles" without Hayate Gekkou would be incomplete. The chakra she expended from running at full speed was negligible to her.

She bit her thumb and swiftly formed hand seals in the sequence of Boar, Dog, Bird, Monkey, and Ram.

"Summoning Jutsu!"

With a puff of white smoke, through her chakra exchange, a portion of the Slug Sage from Shikkotsu Forest, following the summoning contract, transformed into a clone and was teleported over a great distance to the Leaf Hospital via the jutsu's channel.

Ino had used the maximum amount of chakra for the summoning, and the slug that appeared was a towering 18 meters tall. The sage's clone looked at Ino and spoke in a gentle voice, "Little Ino, what's the matter?"

Ino pointed to Hayate in the operating room. "Lady Katsuyu, please help us heal this ninja."

Katsuyu's voice remained calm. "Understood."

Her body began to split, producing countless small slugs.

These tiny slugs crawled all over Hayate's body, each one repairing his wounds. It was as if hundreds of medical ninja were healing him simultaneously. A green chakra glow enveloped Hayate.

The small slugs' healing was only a life-saving measure. Issues like displaced organs and severe internal bleeding still required surgery.

This wasn't a particularly complicated case – it was just that there were too many wounds, and the injuries were too severe. Hayate was like a shattered porcelain doll that needed to be pieced back together. While Katsuyu handled the bulk of the repairs, the finer details were left to the medical ninja, making the workload immense.

The doctors worked tirelessly, treating him bit by bit.

Katsuyu had worked with Leaf ninja for many years and was familiar with their medical techniques. She continued to split off small slugs to aid in the healing, replenishing them whenever their chakra ran out.

The sudden appearance of such a massive creature in the hospital caused some panic, even with the ANBU trying to calm everyone down.

After the Second Shinobi War, Tsunade had left the village. Older ninja were familiar with her, but many of the younger generation had never heard of the Slug Princess.

The Hyuga clan, with their Byakugan, the Inuzuka and Aburame clans, who were sensitive to the presence of large creatures, all turned their attention toward the hospital.

Jiraiya, who was in the bathhouse with Naruto, and Orochimaru, lurking in the shadows, both sensed Katsuyu's arrival. Their reactions differed, but their choices were the same: to wait and see.

An hour later, the combined efforts of surgery and ninjutsu finally concluded. Blood vessels were stitched, organs repaired, and techniques like Mystical Palm Jutsu and Healing Resurrection Jutsu were utilized. Hayate's life was finally saved.

He had lost too much blood, and his heart had stopped briefly. When he would regain consciousness depended on his own willpower.

Yuugao was more nervous than anyone. When she heard her lover's life was saved, she let out a heavy sigh of relief, nearly collapsing on the spot.

During the surgery, Ino had been tempted to showcase her skills, but she recalled the adage, "The last ten percent of the journey is the hardest." Given her good relationship with Hayate and Yuugao, she decided not to risk making things worse.

She restrained her impulses, while the medical team worked themselves to exhaustion. After transferring Hayate to a recovery room for observation, they went to rest.

Ino thanked Katsuyu for her help and dispelled the summoning.

The summoning had drained a significant amount of her chakra, leaving her exhausted. Summoning Katsuyu had also drawn a lot of attention, so she decided to head straight home. With her chakra not fully recovered, she couldn't afford to wander outside the village. She planned to rest for two days and then search for Tsunade the day after.

The Root guards continued to use the excuse that "Lord Danzo is out of the village on a mission" to avoid meeting with anyone. The Third Hokage had no choice but to call a meeting with his two old comrades. This time, along with advisor Shikaku, Kakashi was also included. The Third Hokage's reasoning was that Aoi had been the one to find Hayate.

The five of them closed the door and began analyzing Hayate's injuries.

Shikaku was the first to speak. "Looking at Hayate's wounds, they were caused by a powerful Wind Release ninjutsu. There are many in the Leaf Village who are skilled in Wind Release, but to injure and nearly kill a special jonin skilled in taijutsu narrows the list significantly."

They listed out several Wind Release users who, due to their positions, could have ambushed Hayate.

The rogue ninja Orochimaru, Wind Release users currently in the village, ninja from the Sand Village, even Asuma and Ino were within the scope of suspicion. But the most suspicious of all was one person: Danzo Shimura!
