Kai and Lian walked side by side, their minds weighed down by the investigation. Someone had tried to kill him. But the bigger question remained—why?
Lian broke the silence first. "Did they mention anything about the Monster Core?"
Kai nodded. "They're suspicious. They don't know where it came from, but they're looking into it."
Lian exhaled. "That means we don't have much time. If we wait for them to uncover the truth, we'll always be a step behind."
Kai understood what she meant. They had to investigate on their own.
"Where do we start?" he asked.
Lian's eyes flickered with thought. "The academy stores every item that enters its grounds in the supply records. If the core was planted here, there might be a record of when it arrived—and who brought it."
Kai smirked. "Breaking into the supply archives? Sounds risky."
Lian rolled her eyes. "Only if you do it wrong. Besides, we won't be 'breaking in.' We just need to find someone who has access."
Kai crossed his arms. "And I'm guessing you already have someone in mind."
A small grin played on Lian's lips. "I might."
Kai sighed. "Fine. Lead the way."
They turned down a side corridor, heading toward their next target.
If the Monster Core was planted in the academy, then the truth had to be hidden somewhere inside.
And they were about to find it.
