Chapter 91 - Chapter 91: The Strange Man

The wife was suffering from common ailments due to old age. But the husband… was in very critical condition. The tumor in the old man's brain was growing rapidly. If not removed soon, the old man had only ten days left to live.

The problem was… no doctor dared to perform the surgery.

Only Strange had the confidence to handle such a complicated operation. But as usual, Strange refused without a hint of hesitation.

Christine still remembered the desperate face of the wife, kneeling before Strange, pleading with hope. However… Strange didn't even lift his eyelids, coldly rejecting the request.

Christine clenched her fists.

Christine wanted to help, but with her current abilities, her success rate was less than 30%. If Christine failed, not only would the old man lose his life—his elderly wife would lose the only person she loved.

"Are you feeling stressed?" A foreign voice suddenly broke the silence.

Christine's heart raced. She turned around immediately—and was shocked.

Behind Christine stood someone she hadn't realized was there.

How could this be…? Christine hadn't even heard the person's footsteps entering.

The Strange Man.

Christine looked at the man in front of her warily.

In this era, superheroes were not common. The world was not yet filled with people possessing extraordinary powers flying in the sky or running as fast as lightning.

As an ordinary doctor, Christine had certainly never seen anyone wearing a uniform like this—shimmering white-silver, with a glowing star symbol on the chest and a long cape billowing without wind.

However, what was even more confusing…

How did this man enter without a sound?

Christine clearly remembered that her office door was tightly closed. There were no footsteps, no signs of anyone else's presence. Yet now, the man stood before Christine, as if he had simply appeared out of thin air.

Christine felt a slight tension in her neck.

Where Christine took a short breath, trying to calm herself, she then asked in a slightly tense voice, "Who are you?"

The man—Lance—only smiled faintly, then shifted his gaze to the white ring floating in the air. A soft light emanated from the ring, pulsing gently like a beating heart.

"Do you want to save more lives?" Lance asked in a calm tone, as if his question were trivial.

Christine furrowed her brows. "Of course."

Lance nodded slightly. "Are you willing to be the messenger of fate?"

"What do you mean?" Christine was increasingly confused.

Lance looked deeply into Christine's eyes. "Do you want to save that poor elderly couple?"

Now Christine was truly shocked.

How did this person know?

The case of the elderly couple had just crossed Christine's mind a few minutes ago. There was no one else in this room, and it was impossible for this stranger to know Christine's inner struggles.

Even so…

"Uh, yes," Christine replied hesitantly.

Lance smiled wider. "Then, swear an oath!"

"What?"

Christine's eyes widened. Swear? For what?

However, before Christine could ask more questions, Lance raised his hand.

A sparkling white light appeared, and the white lantern ring shot toward Christine, wrapping around her finger gently like a thread of light. Instantly, a strange sensation spread throughout Christine's body—not pain, but something deeper.

Christine felt something emerge in her mind.

A sentence, an oath, echoed in Christine's thoughts.

Unconsciously, Christine's mouth moved.

"The brightest day has its light,

Cleansing the soul is wrong.

When darkness comes, look up,

When a new day arrives, its light is limitless!"

As those words left Christine's lips, white light exploded around her, filling the room with a bright yet warm glow, as if the dawn sun had risen in the dark night.

Christine stared at her hand with wide eyes.

"This… what is happening?" Christine whispered, horrified yet amazed.

"This is the White Lantern Ring, symbolizing the light of life."

Lance pointed to the glowing white ring on Christine's finger.

"This is the messenger of fate for the entire universe. Its will is the destiny of all. You have been chosen for your goodness and courage."

Christine was still stunned, her eyes fixed on the ring that radiated warm yet powerful light.

"You will be the first White Lantern Messenger in this universe," Lance continued, "and will be granted the power to control fate by the Spirit of Life."

"I… I…"

Christine struggled to find words, but her thoughts were too chaotic.

Is this real?

Yet, the energy flowing from the ring made Christine aware that this was not a dream. There was warmth, strength, and a sensation of life that Christine had never felt before.

Lance slowly floated into the air, his hands remaining at his sides. A faint white light surrounded Lance's figure, making him appear like a god from legend.

"Feel the power of life!"

"Christine Palmer, as the White Lantern Messenger, you will surpass all doctors in the world."

Those words echoed in Christine's mind. Christine looked at her own hands, feeling the pulse of power that she did not yet fully understand.

However, before Christine could ask more, Lance turned and began to walk away.

"Wait, who are you?" Christine called out.

Lance glanced back slightly, his voice remaining calm.

"Lord of the White Sky, master of the White Lantern Ring."

Lance's gaze was sharp and full of warning as he added,

"Remember, if one day you go against the will of the White Lantern Ring, you will also be punished."

In an instant, Lance waved his hand, and his figure vanished in a blink.

Shunpo.

An extraordinary speed technique comparable to short-range teleportation. Effective for surprising people, leaving a deep impression, and of course—maintaining Lance's status and mysterious aura.

Christine fell silent, still processing everything that had happened.

Meanwhile, on top of the hospital—

Lance had just landed on the roof, enjoying the view of the city shining below him, when suddenly—

"WHAT KIND OF DEMONIC MONSTER DARES TO ENTER MY TERRITORY?!"

A booming voice shook the air, like thunder rumbling on a quiet night.

In an instant, a crystal green light pierced the sky, moving swiftly toward Lance!

Lance squinted.
