Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

Trevor wandered aimlessly around his house, the silence echoing off the walls. His mind was consumed by thoughts of Tina. She'd been gone for longer, yes, but that didn't mean he liked it. He checked his phone for what felt like the hundredth time, debating whether to send her a message or call her. But he hesitated, unsure if he'd be disturbing her. She did say she'd be leaving today at least.

As the hours ticked by, Trevor tried to distract himself by cooking dinner - that he definitely wouldn't be eating- and tidying up. But his gaze kept drifting back to the phone, willing Tina to magically call on the other end.

Just as he was starting to lose hope, a knock at the door broke the silence of the house. Trevor's heart skipped a beat as he approached the entrance, a mix of curiosity swirling in his chest. Who could be visiting at this hour? It definitely wasn't Mike. Could it be...?

He peered through the peephole which he barely ever used, and his breath caught in his throat at what he saw. Or who.

It was Tina, standing on his porch with a radiant smile on her face. She looked stunning, dressed in a elegant outfit that accentuated her curves. But it was her eyes that truly sparkled - they seemed happier, more at peace than he'd ever seen before.

Trevor's heart swelled as he flung open the door, sweeping Tina into a warm hug. They stood there for a moment, wrapped in each other's arms, the world around them melting away.

"I've missed you so much, you know that, right?" he whispered.

She let out a soft laugh as she responded, "Yeah. I do. And I missed you too."

As they pulled back, Trevor's lips met Tina's in a tender kiss, the connection between them crackling like electricity. They stood there, lost in the moment, the only sound being the gentle hum of the evening air.

She was happy. Really happy. And anyone could tell from the way her smile was competing with the morning sunlight streaming through the windows.

Tina stretched languidly in the familiar and comfortable bed. When she came to, she noticed he wasn't beside her and assumed he was already up and about.

Yesterday she was too tired to eat anything, so she waved all his gestures away. She just wanted kisses and hugs from him, and a warm bed to lay on, considering how cold the weather was getting. And she got that, with Trevor looking willing to give her whatever she wanted. Most likely because of how much he missed her.

As she swung her legs over the side of the bed, her gaze fell upon her bag, which she'd brought with her. It was a deliberate decision, making Trevor's place her first stop after returning from her travel home. Going to her own place seemed like a lot of work, adding to the fact that it's empty with no sign of life. Probably cold too. It was good to take some warmth from here first.

Tina yawned, feeling a bit groggy, and made her way to the bathroom. A refreshing shower and some pampering helped her shake off the remnants of fatigue.

The day unfolded lazily, with Tina spending most of it sleeping in and lounging around Trevor's house. She ate and Trevor just hung out silently around her. It was nice. It made her remember how they used to be in the beginning. Her cousins thought it was weird how they could be silent around each other and be comfortable. Honestly, sucks to be them. Because who wants to talk 24/7?

Eventually, Trevor offered to drive her home, and she gratefully accepted. She was still feeling sleepy and she didn't know why. It's not like she traveled to do some hard labor. Sure, she'd never slept that much ever since she started her company, but even on the free days she gave herself, she never slept the way she did.

As she settled into her own space a while later, Tina slipped into something comfortable and poured herself a glass of wine. Sipping wine put her in a much better mood, which she'd appreciated. She put on some soothing music, feeling her sleepiness melt away.

Just as she was starting to unwind, her phone buzzed with a text from Lamont.

"Hey, welcome back, as I'm assuming you're back. Just reminding you, we've got that meeting with Vinium Partners tomorrow," the message read.

Tina's mind acknowledged the reminder, but for some reason her body was too tired to respond and the music faded into the background. With a calm mind and a weary body, she settled in her bed and surrendered to sleep once again, the soft music and wine-induced haze lulling her into a peaceful slumber.

It was almost like she'd never fallen asleep earlier.
