It was almost nighttime when Trevor decided it was time to leave. They'd spent the entire day together, doing nothing but just... being happy. And that was something that Tina realized she was missing the moment he left.
Watching him leave was hard, but when he promised to call so they'd plan an official date, she was able to cope.
They'd shared a chaste kiss, hugged intensely, taking in each other's warmth before letting go. She stood by her gate, staring into the distance as he drove off, even after he left.
Walking back inside, she became deep in her thoughts. They hadn't really brushed on any serious topics because she'd explained everything that'd happened to him the day before. She made sure not to mention that Lamont knew though. She'd poured out her heart, but it seemed he already somewhat knew some of the things she was saying. Either he knew or he just didn't care much. He did make sure to tell her quite bluntly she was all he really cared about and that his anger with her didn't last long because of that.
And he proved that.
Now alone in her house, she felt cold. But inside her felt warm. And fuzzy. So she did something she hadn't done in a while, and that was jump up and scream in excitement as she revisited the moment she and Trevor had together. Their touches, his words... His everything.
She ran up the stairs to her room and stopped when she looked at her now arranged bedroom, then sighed. She ambled towards the bed, one thought in her mind.
She sat at the edge, hesitant for a moment before diving right in, her face in the sheets as she took a whiff of the familiar scent. It wasn't something she'd do in anyone's presence, but she missed him all of a sudden and... she really wished she took something that belonged to him. They'd changed the sheets this morning, but since they spent time in bed for the day, a bit of his scent lingered. And that's what she was trying to grasp with her nose.
It was weird, how she was acting. He'd been gone for only a few minutes, and he promised they'd see the next day. She really should get a grip.
She really did miss this man.
Before she could do any more out-of-pocket things, she heard her phone ring. Raising her head slightly and stretching her body to grab her phone which was thankfully close by.
"Hey," she said unenthusiastic when she saw it wasn't who she was expecting.
"I love how excited you sound to hear from me after more than twenty-four hours."
She shifted her position to lay her back on the sheets, but with a pillow on her face now.
"Sorry, I've been... busy."
"With what?"
"Trevor," she answered, not bothering to hide how happy she sounded. He already knew almost everything about her now, why'd she bother hiding this?
"Wait. I don't understand, what do you mean? Did he come over or something?" Lamont asked eagerly.
"Yeah. He did. Last night," she said.
She beamed as she narrated everything that happened. Not much details, but the gist of it all. There were some things she wanted to keep precious to herself. Some things that just weren't anyone's business anyway.
"Oh, Tina. I'm so happy for you!"
She smiled. "Thanks."
"So...all that is fixed then, right? Between you two, I mean. You're now a couple again and-"
"Well..."
"You're not together?" Lamont questioned, sounding dumbfounded. "But I thought all these was like... I'm not understanding where all this is going."
"Well, we're going to take it slowly. We're going out tomorrow. On an official date this time."
Lamont breathed. "But you want to go out with him, right? Be official at some point. You still like him a lot and stuff."
Tina nodded. "I do. A lot more than I expected."
"Then I guess that's settled." Then he added, "I guess now you're happy. Very happy."
She simpered. "I am. I feel... like I'm on top of the world."
"You sound like it," Lamont laughed. "It's a good thing, I think. Trevor was all you needed to get your life back on track, it seemed. I'm happy for you."
"Thank you, Lamont."
"I hope you're coming to work tomorrow, though."
"I am, don't worry. I never forget about work."
"I'm not so sure about that with you and Mr. Samuels reconnecting now."
Tina smiled. "Don't worry, Lamont. I'm still the same me."
"Yeah, right."
Even she didn't believe that. She felt different. In a nice way. She liked it.
After the call, she stayed in place, having no interest in moving from her spot. She shivered as she felt cool breeze brush her skin.
The sun was down and the room made her feel a bit lonely. She'd never really cared about having people in her house, because she just hated company. But Lamont was nice. And Trevor... She'd always wanted to live in the same house as he. They'd talked about it a lot in the past and she wondered if it ever crossed his mind again. It would surely be nice to share a home with someone you love, and kids... well, they'd never really talked about that. Trevor never seemed to care and she was curious about his thoughts on it now.
Having an official and better relationship than the past would need them to discuss this extensively, she thought.
Glancing at her flat belly, she sighed. The thought of giving birth didn't make her feel excited in anyway. That wasn't a positive response.
The coolness of the room and the comfortable bed was slowly lulling her into sleep, but it all just had to be interrupted by her phone's vibration.
She groaned as she reached for it again, hoping it was something important at least. It was. It was him.
I'm home.
I don't know if you're asleep yet or busy, but I just wanted to text you.
I kinda miss you already, which is silly
When we were together, we were a bit silly though
But yeah...
I'll call you tomorrow morning.
Good night.
She felt her heart melt as she read the messages. He was so sweet. That's never changed.
Smiling to herself, she stared at the messages again, deciding not to respond. He said he'd call in the morning, so maybe there was no need. If she responded, he'd probably respond too... Then they'd text all night and probably have no sleep.
No, she shook her head. She'd let him be. He might be tired from driving or even busy with plans for work and stuff.
Yeah. Best to let him be.
It was hard though.
