A young boy with eyes as green as an emerald's and skin as pale as a ghost's was walking cautiously, paying attention to his surroundings, under the dark sky. Billions and billions of radiant stars were scattered all across it, but the darkness remained, in both the sky and his heart.
no matter how much he tried to deny it, Alric was afraid of this place. no matter how beautiful it looked, he didn't want to be there. he did not want to stay here even for a second more.
breath vapour formed as he sighed, "somethings in life just can not be changed, you can only live with the consequences of your actions."
"I regret fighting that cursed bird," he shut his eyes tight, taking in a deep breath, but opened them as soon as he recalled where he was, "But don't we all have something to regret over? Don't we all have something we want to change? that is just life. Regret comes with living."
Although he regretted fighting it, he did not blame melissa or Albert in any way, he did not blame anyone, he did not want to. To blame is to point a finger while ignoring the hand that played its own part.
Alric gulped as the cold breeze hit his back and a shiver ran down his spine, "I need to find shelter as soon as possible." he muttered under his breath.
His eyes were heavy and dry, rapidly blinking, fluttering shut and open. Fighting a battle of whether to fall asleep and risk his life, or stay awake and risk life, but staying aware of his surroundings. He was risking his life while being here in the first place, not that he had any choice of his own in this matter, for now, he could only hope to stay awake till he found a shelter. He was utterly exhausted, fleeing from all sorts of deadly horrors in this unholy jungle, changing routes and walking circles around death.
A smile crept up his face, "Ah, what does it matter? No one is coming to save me here... might as well enjoy my last sleep." his mind was about to blank out when just a simple thought came into it: 'not yet'
He walked 'not yet'
He walked 'not yet'
He walked and walked, a hundred steps, five hundred steps and a thousand steps, and then finally, on his one thousand and one hundred and eleventh step... he saw something strange. He saw an enormous tree that dwarfed all of its surroundings, its leafless branches unmoving under the gentle wind, two of its dead roots extended above the ground shaped in a ninety-degree angle, Alric the one facing the vertex of it, in truth, the two dead roots did not intersect at all, in between, where the dead roots connected to the tree trunk, an entrance to the hollowness of the tree could be seen, the enormous tree seemed to have been hollowed out from inside, nothing but a hollow, dead husk remaining of it.
A strange scent was emitting from inside, but Alric did not care, all he cared about was sleep. If something was inside waiting for him to come in so it could devour him? "do it I say, eat me alive" he had no will remaining, all he wanted was some rest, bruises scattered around his body, the clothing he had washed before turned even dirtier than previously.
"fuck it... life sucks" he said as he started walking towards the trees entrance with shaky legs.
Alric's breathing turned heavy as he grew closer to the entrance. After all, he could barely see in the dark night, and he wouldn't be able to see anything the moment he stepped inside. A man fears what he can not see.
Taking a gulp, Alric stepped inside, seeing nothing but darkness gave him a weird sense of pride, even without his vision he was calm, he didn't expect this reaction out of him, but he did not care about anything at the moment, walking a few more steps, he lost his balance and fell face front on the dry soil, some of it sticking to his face.
His consciousness gradually faded as he drifted off to sleep.
