Chapter 71 - Shaq at the Freethrow Part 2

Éclair is happier than she has been in a long time, enjoying herself at the playground. Coming down the slide, she is met by a group of unfriendly kids.

"What's your name? I've never seen you before." A little girl asks her.

Éclair pulls out her whiteboard and writes her name down.

"Éclair?" The little girl says, making a funny face. "That sounds weird. Are you a weirdo Éclair?"

Éclair starts to feel uncomfortable and tries to walk away, but the other kids won't let her.

"Hey, I'm just asking a question, Éclair. Don't be so shy. Why won't you talk to us?" The little girl keeps pushing.

Éclair tries to get away again, but one of the kids pushes her back into the center.

"You smell funny, Eclair. Do you take baths?" the little girl asks, invoking laughter from her friends.

Clouds start to form as Éclair starts to get sad from the bullying. One of the kids in the group tries to get the little girl to leave Éclair alone, as she is beginning to get emotional, but the little girl isn't letting up.

"Aww, Éclair is about to cry. That's so sad. Well, there is no crying on this playground. This playground is for big kids. So run to your mommy and daddy. Let them wipe your tears for you."

Éclair hears the mention of her parents, and it starts to rain before the first tear leaves her eyes. Then, she feels a hand on her head, and she hears Cordayl's voice.

"You know, growing up, I always liked bullies. I found out they were the ones who cried the hardest after you beat them up," Cordayl tells the kids.

They all stare at Cordayl in fear as one of them points and shouts, "The Diablo!"

Suddenly, the whole playground is filled with fear and chaos as parents scoop up their kids and run to safety.

Cordayl kneels down to be at eye level with Éclair. "Are you alright?" he asks. Éclair nods her head yes and puts her arms around Cordayl's neck. Cordayl is a little taken aback, but he does return the embrace. As he calms her, he smiles as the rain stops and the sun comes back out.

Picking her up, he activates his gravity control, and she floats in the air. She starts to freak out, and the clouds come back. Cordayl quickly reverses the power until Éclair is on his back once again.

"It's time we left this city. Wanna get ice cream in the next one?" Éclair excitedly nods her head, and the two make their exit.

As they are calmly walking out of the city, a brick wall appears out of nowhere. Cordayl is confused, but he just walks around it.

Then another wall appears before him and Éclair, but when he tries to walk around it, another brick wall pops up and blocks his exit. Trying to turn the other way, his exit is blocked yet again by a third brick wall.

Cordayl sighs and turns around to see a hero in front of him. "Evening Diablo. I'm the Brave Brixsby, the hardest hero in this region! And you're about to find out how hard I really am. The hard way." The cocky hero states.

"Uhm… Pause." Cordayl responds.

The hero gets embarrassed. "Man, I didn't even- shut up! And put your hands up!" The Brave Brixsby yells, striking his stance.

"No," Cordayl says. "This little lady wants ice cream, so we're going to go get ice cream."

"You're kidnapping children now!? That's low, even for you." Brixsby yells.

"Does she look kid-?" Cordayl shouts back but is cut off, getting hit in the face with a brick.

"Sweetheart, nod your head if you are in danger," Brixsby asks Éclair.

"I just told you she's-" Another brick hits Cordayl in the face. "Stop throwing bricks at me!" Cordayl yells.

Éclair shakes her head vigorously, trying to let the Brave Brixsby know she is in no danger.

"I understand. Fear can leave the strongest of us speechless. Well, be brave just a little bit longer. I'm coming to save you." Brixsby states with a corny smile and pose.

Cordayl laughs at him. "He's kinda goofy, ain't he?" Cordayl asks Éclair. Éclair covers her mouth as she joins Cordayl in silent laughter.

Brixsby gets upset seeing them laughing at him and throws another brick, which smashes on Cordayl's forehead. Cordayl is still laughing, though. "Alright, I deserved that one."

When Cordayl opens his eyes he sees that storm clouds have overtaken the sunny day. Turning around, he sees Éclair holding her forehead, as tears are about to start falling from her eyes.

Cordayl quickly drops her and comforts her. "I'm sorry, Éclair." Cordayl apologizes.

"Don't worry. I'll make sure he pays for that. Cool?" Cordayl says, wiping her tears.

Éclair brightens up hearing that she'll be avenged. Cordayl tells her to go stand over by the side. "Hey brickhead!"

"It's Brixsby bitch!" Brixsby responds.

"I don't care. Just do me a favor and put a wall around Éclair so she doesn't get hit by any more of your stupid bricks." Cordayl tells him.

"I only do so to protect her. Not because you tell me to." Brixsby states, putting a small brick house with a slit view around Éclair.

"You see that?! I put an opening in the wall so she can see me kick your ass." Brixsby boasts.

A collision is felt, and Cordayl's fist is knuckle deep in a brick wall.

"I was curious if your reflexes were as fast as your mouth. Glad I'm not disappointed." Cordayl states, pushing the wall over.

"Trust me, I have just the thing for your aroused curiosity, Diablo."

"Bro, pause," Cordayl says

"Shut up!" Brixsby yells.

The two engage in their fight, with the Brave Brixsby throwing a nice mixture of wall defense in with his attacks. The tactic is new for Cordayl, who finds it joyous to try to predict Brixsby's moves. Cordayl catches on and lands a clean palm strike to the chest of Brixsby.

Brixsby uses a brick wall to stop his momentum. The hit stuns him a little, but he quickly regains his wits as he notices Cordayl descending from the sky with an axe kick.

"These little brick walls of yours are pretty strong." Cordayl compliments as he notices that the brick wall Brixsby put up, albeit broken through, stopped his kick before it could land on Brixsby's shoulder.

Brixsby growls, but it is cut short when Cordayl knees the brick wall, making it slide to crush Brixsby. Brixsby shows another of his abilities when he avoids the slamming wall by phasing into it.

Brixsby, now within the brick wall, talks to himself. "I knew this would be a tough battle." He tells himself.

"I don't like to reveal this strength unless necessary, but my opponent is the Diablo, which means drastic measures are necessary whenever. It's a dirty tactic, but victory demands that I do it. For the safety of the world!" The Brave Brixsby shouts, reappearing through the wall Cordayl pushed, trying to punch him in the dick.

Cordayl catches Brixsby by the hand and laughs at him. "I'm not even mad at you,"

Cordayl states as he squeezes the fist and slams him into the ground. Repeatedly.

Cordayl throws Brixby into his brick walls and walks away, saying, "That was for Éclair."

Cordayl gets over to Éclair and tells her to step back before he casually rips the brick barrier apart. "Ready for some ice cream?" Cordayl asks as he holds out his hand for Éclair to grab.

She eagerly nods her head and runs out of the brick house to reach Cordayl, but right before she can grab him, he pushes her hand away before a tall wall of bricks shoots into the sky and surrounds Cordayl.

Now inside this dark and tall brick silo, Cordayl backs away from the wall as he awaits for Brixsby to attack again.

Suddenly, the floor moves and throws Cordayl slightly off at its unexpected elevation. Seeing Cordayl off just slightly, Brixsby decides to make his move and dives in to fight Cordayl. The bout is short as Brixsby falls into the floor, disappearing again.

The brick floor hits a stopping point and starts to descend. Cordayl can see the top of the brick structure, but the floor is sporadic and non-stopping as it moves randomly to provide Brixsby with any opening it can.

As often as Brixsby attacks, they are all in vain, as Cordayl evades and lands hits on Brixsby as he dashes in and out of combat. Cordayl gets agitated when Brixsby actually lands a punch on him.

The punch bothers Cordayl, but Brixsby's shit-talking pushes him over the ledge.

"Finally wearing you down eh? Good. After I beat you down, I will make sure to bury you in bricks so that the maggots don't get infected consuming your evil flesh. Don't worry though, you will receive an all-brick tombstone so that the world will know it was I who rid it free of your insidious spirit." Brixsby laughs with glee.

Cordayl sighs and shakes his head. "I truly pity fools like you."

"Ohh, really?" Brixsby responds. "And why is that Diablo?" He says sarcastically.

"Because fools like you have the misconception that this was a fair fight. Knives to fight a nuke, a water bottle to stop a volcano, and in this case, a brick to challenge a mountain." Then Cordayl punches the part of the brick Brixsby was hiding in.

Brixsby is shocked that Cordayl found him not only in the bricks but also in complete darkness. He is even more shocked when Cordayl is centimeters from punching the piece of brick he teleported to.

Cordayl slowly punches through the brick structure as he hunts down the Brave Brixsby brick by brick. Tearing through every floor of brick, Cordayl finally punches through a part that sends Brixsby flying through the sky and out onto the street, unable to move.

Brixsby lays there defeated, grunting in pain as he tries to sit up and continue the fight. As he sits up, he sees his brick tower falling down on him. The Brave Brixsby cowers in fear as the brick building slams onto the street, shaking the city.

Éclair watched everything from the outside, even witnessing Cordayl push the tower over with one hand. The expression on his face frightened her, seeing it from a distance, but after taking a deep breath, Cordayl returned to normal before he walked over to Éclair.

Alright lets go get some ice cream." He smirks, squatting down so she can hop on his back. Eclair happily jumps on as they walk out of the city on a nice sunny day.
