Chapter 66 - The Protector Part 1

Cordayl and Yesseia are sprinting through a jungle at top speed, chased by a hoard of robotic humans led by a cheetah riding on top of a slower but bigger robot.

"Run across the world! I have your scent now. There is nowhere you can escape me." She smiles, licking her lips.

Cordayl and Yesseia continue to sprint through the jungle. "Why are we running?!" Yesseia shouts.

"Force of habit!" Cordayl responds.

"Well, I don't like it!" Yesseia says, jumping into a tree trunk.

Cordayl continues running, assuming the hunter is after him. Seeing Cordayl speed off, the hunter orders her robots to go after him as she will deal with Yesseia herself.

Propelling off the wood, Yesseia flips and squares up with the robots, who all ignore her and continue after Cordayl.

Confused, Yesseia starts to go after them but quickly backflips, feeling something about to run her over. The hunter jumps off her giant robot and attacks Yesseia in the air. The two exchange and promptly depart, landing and staring each other down

"The mighty Yesseia. Goodness, you are one beautiful trophy." The hunter admits.

"Thanks, pretty kitty. But forgive me for future animal abuse," Yesseia states, striking her stance.

The cheetah gracefully jumps off of her giant robot. "Oh, please try. I enjoy cleaning my fur after a good hunt." The cheetah drops down, ready to pounce.

There is a brief silence, but then the two explode into combat. The fight is all over the woodland as the two move at high speeds, attacking each other.

Yesseia lands a big punch on the cheetah, sending her into the clearing where Cordayl is fighting off the horde of robots that were once chasing him. The cheetah shakes off the hit and eagerly jumps back into the fight with Yesseia, who has found her.

The two fight fiercely, and the cheetah starts to gain the advantage, ready to land a big blow, until Cordayl grabs her tail, distracting her long enough for Yesseia to capitalize and land a vicious kick that sends the cheetah flying out of view.

"Do not interfere again!" Yesseia tells him.

"My bad. Won't happen again." Cordayl promises as he fends off his attackers.

"What's taking you so long to finish these chumps off?" Yesseia ask.

"I don't know. I'm trying not to kill them, but I can't seem to knock them out either. They just keep getting back up." Cordayl says.

"Dummy, they are cyborgs," Yesseia shouts, now having to fight them too.

"Cyborgs? No, they're not!" Cordayl retorts.

"It's so obvious. What normal police officer could take more than a punch from you?" Yesseia ask.

Cordayl thinks about it as he defends himself. "True, but what about that mailman?"

"What about him?" Yesseia says.

"He has a mustache. Cyborgs don't have mustaches!" Cordayl states.

"That's because they aren't just cyborgs. They are masterpieces. If all of my art looked the same, it wouldn't be art. It would be manufacturing." The cheetah states proudly, watching her robots handle their own.

Yesseia rolls her eyes. "I'm leaving them to you again. Stop going easy on them!" she shouts, running through robots to return to her fight with the boss.

Face to face again, the two females square up. "Ready for round two?" Yesseia ask.

"Of course, pretty trophy. I'm all warmed up now." The cheetah licks her lips as she quickly darts into combat.

Yesseia is shocked at the speed increase and finds it much more challenging to hit the feline this time.

The cheetah smirks, enjoying her speed advantage. "Having trouble keeping up. Transform then. And let me see the pretty trophy's final form." The cheetah teases.

Yesseia is breathing a little heavier but confidently states that she doesn't need her final form to handle a kitten. Revving up, Yesseia starts to attack the cheetah, chasing her in a violent cat-and-mouse game.

Yesseia finally catches her and lands a devastating blow on the cheetah. Yesseia stands over the cheetah, who is wincing in pain.

"Hunt's over, kitty. You lose." Yesseia states.

"The hunt isn't over until either the prey or the hunter is dead. And I am still breathing, " the cheetah responds.

"Not for long," Yesseia says, moving closer.

"I always research my trophies to talk about them in full detail to my audience. And you know what I found out about you?" The cheetah asks.

"That I hate people who stall." Yesseia retorts.

The cheetah chuckles, "No. Your people believe in fighting with honor." The cheetah states, scooping and throwing a paw full of dirt at Yesseia's face.

Yesseia shields her eyes without closing them, trying to predict where the cheetah will strike when suddenly a robot explodes inches behind her.

Yesseia gasps out in pain as the explosion sends her propelling forward. Then her body violently stops.

With a burning pain in her stomach, Yesseia looks down and sees that the cheetah has plunged her sharp claws into her stomach.

In shock, Yesseia looks up just in time to see the giant robot's fist a second before it lands a clean, powerful strike directly to her face, sending her flying across the field.

Cordayl, still dealing with the remaining robots, sees her shadow fly over him, and his eyes grow wide with shock.

As the robots move to jump him again, Cordayl viciously reverses gravity, uppercutting all the robots and giving him a chance to catch Yesseia before she falls.

His burst of gravity also affected Yesseia, changing her trajectory and sending her over the cliff. Cordayl speeds up and jumps to catch her as she sails over the edge.

The robots don't hesitate to pursue him. As Cordayl manages to catch Yesseia, he barely has enough time to shield her before the remaining robots self-destruct over his back.

The massive explosion shakes the side of the mountain, causing chunks of rock to fall off and land on top of Cordayl and Yesseia, burying them under the gravel.

Cordayl lets out a groan as he grabs Yesseia's face to check on her. Seeing she is completely unconscious, Cordayl feels the blood slowly pouring onto his stomach and feels himself starting to hyperventilating.

Calming himself down, Cordayl knows he has to move fast if he is going to save Yesseia.

Cordayl saved them from the boulders by reversing gravity right before they were flattened. Carefully raising the rocks above them, he slowly pulls him and Yesseia from under the rubble.

Gently releasing the gravity, he hopes the hunter believes they are still underneath long enough for him and Yesseia to get far away.

Cordayl throws Yesseia on his back and takes off as fast as possible. He has no idea where he is going but keeps moving through the canyon.

Flying up to higher ground, Cordayl spots a lake with a waterfall and decides to clean Yesseia's wounds and assess the damage. Gently laying her in the water, Cordayl washes away all the blood and sees the deep hole the claws of the hunter left in her stomach.

Cordayl rips off the remains of his shirt to suppress the bleeding, but he doesn't have anything to secure it with.

Seeing vines growing near the waterfall, Cordayl swims over to pull one down.

Getting to the vines, Cordayl sees a cave behind the waterfall. Taking a peak inside, Cordayl sees that it's empty and spacious.

Snatching the vine down, Cordayl ties the makeshift bandage around Yesseia and slowly pulls her through the water. Getting to the waterfall, Cordayl reverses gravity, suppressing the flow so that he can quickly get Yesseia inside the cave.

Cordayl notices that the cave is no longer empty and gives a warning. "Just letting you know now, I've been fighting cyborgs today. So I might kill you by accident."

Someone throws a spear, but it's caught before it can travel more than a few inches.

The leader, who caught the spear, starts walking towards Cordayl. Cordayl lays Yesseia down and squares up.

The leader continues to walk towards Cordayl. Cordayl senses no hostility from the person but doesn't let his guard down. Now within striking range, the person extends a hand toward Cordayl's face, and he jumps back, confused.

The unidentified person is stunned by Cordayl's reaction and slowly pulls their hand away. Finally, the person decides to take off the mask.

Cordayl's eyes widen in disbelief when he sees the woman's face, then narrow in anger as water comes to them.

"I don't know what kind of sick hallucination you are pulling, but you're playing with death right now." Cordayl tells her.

"This is no hallucination, Cordayl." The woman says.

"Ain't no way this is real," Cordayl says, stepping back.

The woman sees Yesseia unconscious on the cave floor. "Please come with me, little warrior. I can explain after we get your friend some help."

A tear falls when Cordayl hears his old nickname. "It is you, " he whispers, taking a step forward.

Cordayl can barely get his words out as he walks towards the woman. "I looked—I looked for so long—"

Cordayl reaches her, and the two touch each other's faces. Cordayl turns her face to the side, and upon seeing the scar that runs from her cheek to her neck, Cordayl knows it's her.

Embracing her completely, Cordayl silently cries as the woman hugs him back with just as much force. "I've missed you so much, my child." Cordayl's mother whispers as she cries herself.

The hunter finally makes it down to the canyon floor on the back of her giant cyborg.

Pulling out her recorder, she saves a memo for herself. "Note to self: increase the decline speed on cyborg 11." She ends her recording.

Jumping down, the cheetah chuckles as she approaches the giant pile of rocks. "I know some lil ol' rocks wouldn't kill those two." She states.

Gracefully scaling up the stones, she sniffs around the boulders, trying to pick up a scent.

Descending upon the other side, she finally finds it. "Ahhh.. Locked on again." She smiles.

"I'll pick up on the chase soon. I need to touch up my artwork first." She smirks, darting back to her cyborg and climbing up the mountain.

"Uhh. Note to self: Increase the incline speed on Cyborg 11 as well, " she says, annoyed.
