I stormed out of Davian's office, heels clicking like gunshots against the marble tiles, the door thudding shut behind me with a force that made the glass tremble in its frame.

My chest was heaving.

My jaw clenched so tightly it ached.

The audacity. The sheer, unbelievable audacity of that man.

After everything we'd been through. After all the nights we whispered plans in the dark, lips still swollen from kisses we shouldn't have shared. After all the sacrifices I made for him, things I could never take back.

And now, just like that, he stood before me like I was some fleeting shadow from a past he was ready to erase.

As if I didn't still bleed for him.

As if my loyalty could be replaced by pearls and lace and Morana-fucking-Valerio.

I gripped the stainless-steel elevator bar so tightly I thought my fingers would snap. My reflection in the mirrored walls stared back at me, furious, wild-eyed, breathless. I looked like a woman on the edge.
