Thalina yanked her hand back, heart slamming against her ribs.
Zorath's broad frame filled the doorway.
She barely had time to straighten before he strode forward, sharp eyes scanning the table.
Thalina forced a casual smile, praying he didn't notice the lingering glow in the mixture.
"That was fast," she said.
He set the containers down with a dull thud.
"Didn't take long," he said, eyeing her suspiciously. "Why do you look out of breath?"
Her stomach flipped.
"Grinding herbs is hard work," she said smoothly, turning to pour the finished medicine into the small glass vials. "You wouldn't get it."
Zorath leaned against the table, arms crossed. "I wouldn't?"
Oh, he was onto her.
She hurried, carefully filling each container with the glowing crimson liquid.
He frowned. "It smells… different than usual."
Panic shot through her.
Damn it. He's too sharp.
She kept her expression neutral. "That's because I actually know what I'm doing."
His eyes narrowed just slightly.
