Henry nodded quickly, forcing a small smile. "Of course, Adriana. I understand."
Adriana bit her lip. She didn't want to leave things like this. She reached for his hand, squeezing it gently.
"Thank you for understanding," she whispered.
Henry looked at her, his eyes softening.
"You don't have to thank me," he said. "I'll wait for you, Adriana. No matter how long it takes."
Adriana's heart skipped a beat. She smiled, feeling warmth spread in her chest.
"Goodnight, Henry," she said.
Henry smiled back, giving her hand one last squeeze before letting go.
"Goodnight, Adriana."
Adriana left, but in between, she would turn around and watch him.
Henry would flash a gentle smile in her direction.
Once Adriana left completely, he gave one last look at the skyscraper.
Henry drove home, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly.
The smile he had given Adriana was long gone, replaced by a smirk of satisfaction. He had played his part well.
