Brielle's POV
" Relax. I'm not here for that."
No soul? Then what? What would a demon be doing here if not to come and collect what he is owed? That is not really what concerns me at the moment. I want to survive. I can't leave yet.
" What do you want? Tell me!" I acted tough. I can't show that I am scared.
" Must you always think the worst of me? I came all the way here to help you," he said to me, sounding a little offended.
I couldn't make out whether he was serious or just pulling my leg for fun. Right now, I am desperate, and I am afraid that whatever despicable schemes that Kael came with, I might just fall for them. But at this point, what could be worse than promising him my soul?
I decided to hear him out. It's not like I have any other choice anyway.
" Fine. I'll listen to what you have to say. I warn you that I am not in a tolerant mood, so this had better be worth it."
He snickered.
" I might be a demon from him, but I'm not as bad as you think. No matter. We will have all the time in the world to know each other better when the time comes. For now, I'll help you get back to your life."
A day of hope sparked in me. I couldn't believe what he just said. Was he going to help me get back to life? Wait. Does that mean that I am truly dead?
" No, you are not dead. But if no one does anything, you will die. The spell you performed was dangerous. I didn't think you would go through with it. You are brave and determined, but it almost cost you your life."
The way he was talking, it sounded as if he was genuinely concerned. Shocking. I didn't know how to react. It's only been my second encounter with a demon, and I am afraid that I don't know as much about them than what I've heard in myths and fantasies.
He is supposed to rejoice at my plight, yet he offers to help me. Maybe... maybe he is truly not that bad.
A smile appeared on his face. It is as if he heard what I was thinking. No, wait. Earlier he answered my question without me asking him. Can he read minds? I looked at him and guilt was written all over his face. He can read minds.
I decided to test my theory. I cleared my mind and waited for an opportunity to catch him off guard.
" KAEL!" I yelled in my mind and he jumped.
Haa! I was right.
" Do you know it's rude to intrude on someone's private thoughts?"
He cleared his throat, clearly embarrassed.
" I didn't mean to. I can't help it."
" Well, help yourself and stay out of my mind. It's uncomfortable to know that you know what I am thinking. "
" Alright, alright, I'll try not to read your mind. Just don't think too much. It's not good for you."
I looked at him in confusion. He was making me feel conflicted. In front of a demon as a human, I should feel afraid for my life. I should see him as a terrifying, despicable creature from the depths of hell, but that is not how I feel. And my body does not react to any sense of danger. I don't see him as a threat. He is a demon for goodness' sake.
" Never mind that. You said you were going to help me. How are you going to do that?"
" Your spirit level is weak, and it could snap at any moment. When it does, you will die. I will bring your spirit and energy back together. That way, it gives you the strength you need to stay alive. I know you must think that it is out of character for a demon to help anyone or harbor good intentions. I wouldn't dare claim to be good, but I do want to help you. Even though we did sign a contract, I am in no rush to get your soul. You can live the life you want alongside your family. I have nothing but time to spare."
Now that he said it, I can't disagree. I was grateful that he was going to help me live this time. Now, giving up my soul to him didn't feel like a bad idea after all.
" I-I don't know what to say to you. It's true that I didn't think you would do that. I thought you would only be interested in taking my soul. I was wrong. Thank you for helping me."
" Don't thank me yet. Live a good life and be happy. And I will be waiting for your soul to come to me."
That last part sent chills down my spine, but it ignored it over the excitement of going back.
With that, he got closer to me. Instinctively, I stepped back, but he didn't stop coming closer to me. Standing in front, I could feel his cold breath fan my face. I thought he would be unpleasant to be close to but there wasn't a smell on him. He was just fine with a distinct scent.
" Farewell, Brielle. Let's not meet again until it's time."
Before I could get a chance to say anything, he placed his palm on my head. He closed his eyes and concentrated on something. A small red glowing mark appeared on his forehead and I felt a lot of energy flow into me. He was helping me with his own spiritual energy. I had concerns, but I wasn't going to be inquisitive and disturb what he was doing. Whatever it was, as long as it helps.
After a little while, he stopped, and looked at me. He then stepped back. That was it. I don't know what he did, but I did feel rejuvenated. I was about to thank him but I collapsed. What is going on?
It took a little while, but I managed to open my eyes. Opening my eyes hurt a lot and my vision was blurry. Once my eyes completely opened, I noticed that I was in Blake and my room. I was back. I couldn't believe it. He really did it. I wished I could have thanked him more.
I groaned when trying to get up. My stiff body wouldn't cooperate. No one was around to help. My throat felt really dry. I wonder how long I have been out. It must have been a scare for everyone. I struggled to sit up. My main concern before anything else was my baby. I touched my belly to feel it. Surprisingly, it had grown a little more than what I knew.
I smiled happily and tears of joy flowed out of my eyes. Everything is okay. It will be alright now.
