"There are a total of thirty people patrolling the compound. Through my scan, it seems the place has an underground base. The lone high-rise building is just a cover," Ariella informed Vaidya, her voice smooth and matter-of-fact.
Vaidya narrowed his eyes, peering at the twenty-story structure in the distance. The windows and doors were heavily boarded up, making it impossible for him to see inside. The building's weathered facade made it look like any other abandoned skyscraper, except for the sniper stationed on the roof.
He scowled slightly. If the building was just a decoy, they had done a damn good job covering their tracks. It made him wonder: Had they managed to carve into the side of the mountain without anyone noticing? Or had the underground base always existed, long before the apocalypse began?
He found himself leaning toward the latter.
