Aleckin's inquiry took aback Margarette. Observing his countenance, she discerned his displeasure. Thus, she hurriedly clarified her feelings, lowering her gaze and showing embarrassment at the misunderstanding.
"Aleck, it's not like that... I do want to correct Miss Herbert's wrong belief. But I became excited after seeing that she was Anton's girlfriend. You know how much Amelia had liked him. Sadly, however, Anton snubbed her. So she pesters Grandpa Miguel to introduce her to the Park family. But they don't want to meddle in Anton's life."
She explained in a coquettish tone that even displeased Aleckin. His piercing gaze fell on her face, then on her hand, still encircling his elbow. Thus, he reminded her.
