"What did you say? Come again?" The air inside Kalix's office turned thick the moment Winter disclosed that she was having dinner with Felix.
She wouldn't have bothered mentioning it before, but now that she was—at least somewhat—reciprocating Kalix's admiration, it felt necessary to be open about everything. No secrets.
Not that it would change anything.
"You heard me right, Kalix. And before you say anything, it's just compensation for leaving them hanging last time," she corrected.
Kalix's expression darkened, his features twisting into something close to a grimace. He slouched back in his seat like a sulking child, while Winter continued to eat, unfazed. She had a lot on her plate, literally and figuratively and if she wanted to keep up, she needed to nourish herself.
"Aren't you eating?" she asked, feigning innocence.
