Chapter 9
I just passed the ball down to my team mate, running down the field I could see the disappointed looks from all around towards our team, i felt so bad and the time went on just five minutes to go, the look on my coach face was painful to watch, after giving countless promises and the advices we got we still haven't been able to beat them our opponents.
The rage I felt was unimaginable, and it made me do something that I hadn't planned for, I ran with all my might towards the ball expelling all thoughts from my mind the only thing I knew I had to do was to win to score that goal even if it meant doing something drastic.
I ran towards the ball which was with our opponent I don't know how they were able to get the ball from us this quick, I was so surprised because they weren't this good the last time we battled against them, just then I came face to face with him my rival Jefferson who was smirking devilishly at me with one of his foot on the ball it looked like everyone had been paused and it was just me and him that could move, it was like a slow motion where only the team captains where in a show down and when I saw that look I remembered what he said to me earlier.
"Your team doesn't stand a chance against us, we have taken our time to study all your weaknesses and you are no match for us now" he said boasting with an air of arrogance like he had already won, just when I was about to respond someone called him then he glanced at me.
" see you on the field", he said and then left walking like he owned the place.
I was so surprised because we haven't really spoken to each other before and he has always been my rival always competing with me trying to surpass me, and I felt there was a deeper meaning behind his words, I just couldn't shake that feeling off.
Shaking the thought off my mind I reminded myself to stay focused and not let anyone distract me, and it's not just about winning, a winner is from the heart, I summoned the courage I had and gave him a bone chilling smile that sent shivers down the spines of onlookers, which made him visibly shocked and distracted he thought I was easy to bring down, not at all and in that brief moment I took the ball from him in a swift movement, and began racing towards the goal, I heard him curse behind me but I didn't mind I just ran with all my might, I was faster than him so it wasn't going to be easy for him to catch up with me I dribbled every opponent I saw in my path and then passed the ball to my team mate who in turn passed to another secretly forming the move we had practiced for so long like a secret trap, I didn't give Jefferson any chance to get the ball and on several occasions he purposely tried to trip me but I was able to avoid all in time and he was left disappointed, I gave my team mate the final signal, it was a signal to tell him when it would be time to perform our legendary secret move, and he came out of no where took the ball quickly and then passed it to me with so much speed and before anyone could process what was happening I lunched the ball furiously, with all the power I had towards our opponents goal at an angle which the keeper wasn't able to catch in time before it hit the net, there was silence until boom!! Goal!!! the whole audience erupted in cheer, awe, screams just then I looked at the timer and smirked 'just in time' just then the referee blew the whistle and the match was over, finally I sighed in relief.
My team mates all rushed towards me running like kids and then lifted me off the floor like a champion, caring me up in the air as they cheered loudly.
I couldn't miss the pained and suprised look on my opponent face Jefferson as he watched us he cursed and the left the field angrily.
Coach couldn't stop smiling like a kid who just got a candy as they awared us our trophy, my besty hugged me tightly
"I knew you could do it bro, I am so proud of you", he said immersed in happinesses, as he moved me to meet the coach.
"thanks bud", I said smiling.
" You are welcome bro" he said before he left me to meet the others coach ben looked at me happily as he patted my back smiling.
" you have made me proud kid, Good job, keep it up", he said joyfully, I had never seen my coach so happy before it was like this was a different person entirely because he almost never smiled he was always serious which led our team to be this victorious.
" Thanks coach, I would always do my best", I said I felt so relieved to actually see him so happy, it was worth it after all.
After we were given our trophy we took photos with each other's and the judges, just then some crazy fan girls ran into the field asking for our autographs, which I reluctantly agreed to, when we were finally able to sneak away from them we then went to the locker room to change, then my bestie suggested that we all go to a nice restaurant to celebrate our victory but I refused, I really didn't want to go anywhere but he forced me to go so I had no option but to go with them we took our bus which took us down to the restaurant along the way we discussed about the match and how we almost lost and how I was able to save the day and all, I wasn't really in the mood to talk and I was barely listening, I was thinking about something else which made me distracted.
every time we won a match she would always be there to cheer me up and hug me and then we would go out for fun but now it's not the same anymore, I guess she was there but I didn't see her maybe she didn't stay till the end of the match.
Just when I was deep in thought my phone rang, I didn't want to take it but then I just decided to, so I took it out from my pocket and then it displayed lil sister 'OMG'.
