Once again, Li Xinran found herself utterly bewildered.
Call her? Why would she call Mrs. Hu? What was happening? An uneasy feeling coiled in the pit of her stomach, as if unseen hands were pulling the strings of a scheme she couldn't yet comprehend.
"Mrs. Hu, I think there's been a misunderstanding," she said, keeping her voice steady. "I never called you."
Mrs. Hu's sharp gaze darkened. "That's odd. Because I distinctly recall receiving a message from you." She pulled out her phone, her manicured fingers scrolling until she found what she was looking for. Turning the screen towards Li Xinran, she asked coldly, "Isn't this your number?"
Li Xinran's breath hitched. Her eyes darted to the screen, and a chill ran down her spine. Indeed, it was her number. The message clearly stated she had something important to reveal about Mrs. Hu's husband.
But… she had never sent it.
