Since the gala, things between them had been… peaceful but nothing like before – a little awkward, even.
Vaerion remained the same as he always did, but with a newfound… insightfulness would be the best way for Asuriel to describe it. He was domineering and overwhelming, but whenever he looked at Asuriel, there was something deeper in his gaze.
Something complex, searching. He still bothered her, but he'd stop after she asked him once or twice instead of being relentless like before. Asuriel wasn't sure what had changed or if she liked it, but she couldn't very well complain about it when she, too, had been distancing herself.
It had only been a week since then when Vaerion approached Asuriel with a surprising demand, and unlike his recent actions, he was his usual, adamant self who wouldn't take no for an answer.
Asuriel blinked in surprise. "We're going to the Infernal Depths? Seriously?"
"It's important," Vaerion shrugged. "I don't want to leave you behind."
